#PhDone Successfully defended my dissertation yesterday! What an incredible, stressful, wonderful experience. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey. This newly minted Dr. is looking forward to exploring what the next big adventure will be!#phdlife #sciencetwitter

Just a grad student chilling with the last set of #stormwater samples of her PhD. It's been a long 3yr project and I have to admit I'm happy to reach the end, but I'm still a little sad to process for the last time. #waterscience #sciencetwitter #gradschool #phdone (almost)

A great thread about the difficulties of finishing in the context of a PhD. SO TRUE! I'm sure ready to declare victory and move on!

#7PhDSecrets. Secret 2: Write and show as you go. It's show and tell - not hide and seek. You tell yourself that they are not ready to write yet. But you are. You need to write all the way through. #PhDforum #PhDchat #acwri #ECRchat #postdoc #academicchatter

Just because you may not see value in your research doesn’t mean others won’t see any. Sometimes we’re too close to our own research to make an accurate assessment. #PhDVoice #PostdocVoice

My 1st research poster from 10 yesterday ago! This was my 1st research experience (studying rare-earth intermetallic crystals at @GrinnellCollege). I was in physics then, a very different field from my work now, but the seeds of the researcher I am today were planted that summer!

I've met with my advisor weekly for the entire duration of my PhD. Not because I need her to hold my hand, but because it's a great opportunity to check in and get support. Many times the meetings are only 5 minutes, but reflecting every week on progress has been very valuable!
#7PhDSecrets: Regular meetings with your supervisor can help you stay on track. They build in some accountability and give you a target to work towards. Several short, focused meetings tend to be more effective than the occasional mega-meeting #PhDforum #PhDchat #postdoc #ECRchat

Fun Fridays! Needed a reminder of why I love this research. Metallized rocket propellant looks like the best sparkler ever! #phdlife #gradlife #combustion #AcademicTwitter #FunFriday

Do you correct for rounding when publishing % data? I have columns that add up to 99% or 101%, but, mathematically, that happens when rounding. Debating whether it's right to change a data point +/-1% to "correct" this, or if that is unethical? #AcademicTwitter @AcademicChatter

🤔 Analyzing the results from my #survey of residential homeowners regarding #stormwater management. 70% of respondents feel that the city should manage stormwater for them, yet only 32% are willing to pay a fee for the city to do so. Hmm...seems problematic to me! #waterscience

Will this weekend's rain provide any improvements to the drought conditions in Iowa? Let's hope so! Most of the state is still classified under "D2 - Severe Drought". #CityofAmes #AmesWater #Ames #Iowa #Drought #Smartchoice #SmartWater

Twitter really needs a "sad" emoji. ❤ sure don't apply here 😭
The latest Drought Monitor came out today. Severe drought conditions have expended into central and northeastern Iowa. #iawx

I love https://t.co/kPiokqMciO for work background noise! Yesterday I was working in an ancient monastery and today I'm working in a bustling cafe! We're in a major drought here so maybe this afternoon I work in a rainstorm to remind Mother Nature what rain is! #gradlife #phdlife
