Kids comments included, “the tiles made it so visual”, “I like this, I feel like I am in grade 4 again and it makes sense” and “wow! Class is over already”! Have you embraced algebra tiles in academic grade 10 math? Has it been worth it?

Worked with a single-streamed 2D class in @wrdsb today completing some expand and simplify using algebra tiles. It was magical! We had builders, recorders and checkers in groups of three after the algebra tiles were introduced.

Conceptual understanding - the more I learn…the less I know! What is the best method you have used to teach subtraction of integers? “Bucket of zeros”, “opposite of”, “number lines”, or…? I would love to hear your ideas!
