ISWAP's share of global ISIS activity has continued to rise, accounting for 31% of all ISIS attacks and 17% of casualties in the first half of 2024 compared to 38% of all ISIS attacks and 27% of casualties in the first half of 2025.

One of 2 bandits slaughtered and mutilated by local members of vigilantes in Anka, Zamfara state, earlier today. Jungle justice is never a way to solve a problem, especially in a context like the northwest. It only leads to more violence in the form of reprisals.

Instead of helping with ransom payments, politicians should work to make the attacks stop by improving security. Otherwise, things may only get worse, as the attackers will believe there’s more from where these ransoms came from.

The Maiduguri-Mafa road is now a hotspot due to attacks by Alai Kale’s Darul Gazuwa JAS sub-group, with 20 kidnappings reported last week. 16 victims were released after ransom payments, the lowest being N2 million. Local politicians assisting in the payments.

On 3 July, JAS fighters under Ali Ngule’s command kidnapped 20 women from their farms outside Gwoza. 5 elderly women were released, leaving behind 15, out of which 11 are young, unmarried girls.

The above represents Nigeria alone, not Cameroon, where ISWAP carried out 18 attacks that resulted in 135 casualties, or Niger, where ISWAP and ISSP's combined 21 attacks led to 233 casualties.

In the 1st half of 2025, ISWAP conducted more attacks than any other ISIS branch, 215 in Nigeria alone, with 734 casualties. West Africa remains ISIS’s most active + lethal front, ahead of Khorasan, DRC, & Iraq. The data reaffirms ISWAP’s central role in ISIS’s global insurgency

ISWAP claims responsibility for yesterday’s Mallam Fatori military base attack. It claims, in addition to killing & wounding some soldiers, that the base was burned, with 5 bulldozers & 1 armoured vehicle also torched, while another vehicle was taken away.
