Heated rally against shut uni libraries: 'It means the death of fine arts'

We are dismayed, shocked, outraged, saddened, and frightened by the Vice Chancellor's decision to close the CAI libraries. But this is just the beginning. We are only going to get LOUDER and LOUDER #saveourlibraries

The ESA provided the Dean and Director of LLS with an opportunity to announce the decision to all students, however they chose to shut them out and conduct the meeting in a secluded room - another example of the extent to which students have been shut out and their voices ignored

UPDATE: Today we were informed of the Vice-chancellor’s decision to amalgamate the School of Fine Arts, Architecture, Music and Dance Library collections into the General library. In effect, university management will close down the three specialist libraries.

Diane Brand and Sue Roberts have called a meeting with student representatives tomorrow: Thursday, 21st June, 12-12.30pm Where: CAI Student Centre (Level 2, Architecture Building 421, reception area). Note: The Student Centre is a public space. We urge you all to please come.

UPDATE. From the Vice Chancellor: “Affected staff will be met with over the next two days to advise them of my decisions on this matter. We expect to be able to advise the wider University community on Thursday (21st June).”
