The Bank of Canada has finally lowered the key interest rate to 4.75%. High interest rates have been a significant barrier to increasing housing starts over the past couple of years. This rate cut is a positive move towards boosting much-needed new residential construction.

SRHBA CEO Nicole Burgess stated, “We were quite concerned when we first heard about this new proposed levy around the end of April as it is a direct hit on affordability and one of those extra costs that will essentially get passed on to a homeowner.”
