This is seriously making me consider whether I want to be here anymore. It feels like complicity. “In an unprompted Tuesday email, Musk wrote: "So is NPR going to start posting on Twitter again, or should we reassign @NPR to another company?"” https://t.co/koqSpwr95e

And finally - this is also why public funding of the arts is so important, because we can't let the market be the only determinant of what art makes it onto a stage. 5/

On top of that, your favourite artists - and all of their people, and the rest of the industry - didn't work for two years. Nobody is volunteering for a pay cut. Some of these companies and some of these acts pay my invoices. I love my work and I'm not a disinterested party. 4/

AND, yes, like it or lump it the companies that bankroll your favourite stadium shows are beholden to their profit margins +/or shareholders. They're not in this for public good, they're in it to make a profit. Which is also why the smart ones own their ticketing platforms 🙃 3/

Attributing it only to a loss of talent during Covid shutdowns and ticket scalping is a horrendously narrow framing of why ticket prices are going up. It's more expensive to produce shows right now than anyone can ever remember, period. 2/

there are SO MANY MORE contributing factors that @radionz is missing: fuel prices, shipping crisis, generally tight labour market, post-shutdown infrastructure shortages, higher food prices, increased demand for EVERYTHING during the busiest season we've seen in a decade... 1/
What do you think is a reasonable price to see an international musician / band ? https://t.co/BqPhkUBXeB

Mōrena to everyone except exploitative fraudsters who steal public money and don’t pay people for their services

Keegan Fepulea’i says his "cash flow became unmanageable". Performers still waiting for payment say they just want accountability.

@funksterism Reading your story and realising this was going on (again) back in 2019 was WILD. That’s why this story had to happen. Get it all out in the open.

I would love - LOVE - to make sure that he isn't able to duck away, resurface in a couple years, and do it all again (as is his habit). So send this far and wide, and if you have your own dealings with the guy to contribute, there are people working on things. DM me.

This is the tiniest smattering of the fraud and theft that Keegan Fepulea'i @JusayinAKL has been getting away with in the Auckland live music industry for 10+ years now but at least some of his shit is getting publicly aired for a change. https://t.co/zExbeSpMEX

Four months after the event, artists are still hassling the organiser for payment. It's not the first time.

In hilarious news, he’s non-apologised (with 2 versions… spot the difference 😂) and once everyone is paid he’s promised to dissolve the company… that he already removed from the Companies Register in August? 🧐

ALSO worth noting that Auckland Unlimited (formerly ATEED and on behalf of @MBIEgovtnz) have so far not been willing to do anything more than continue to try to contact him about the lies he told them, which has… obviously been unsuccessful

THREAD. @JusayinAKL aka Keegan is a full-on scam artist and somehow manages to rehash the same shit every few years with new groups of people. Most recently took/stole $115k from Auckland Unlimited on behalf of @MBIEgovtnz to put in a gig and then not pay anyone. Fucking unreal.
@JusayinAKL / Keegan Fepuleai scams 2022. 1/ A group of musicians and crew have come forward because Keegan hasn’t paid (again) The groups debts total over $10k still owed. Keegan has either ghosted them or made up all form of excuses and reasons for not paying promptly.

So it really took decades to get any public holiday to mark a Māori occasion but literally days to say we all get stat pay because the Queen died? Let’s stop pretending Aotearoa New Zealand is a bicultural nation founded on equal partnership, eh.
