I LOVE appearing in and presenting factual TV. There are so many important pockets of history, science and nature that still need to make it onto our screens - if you have a project and you're looking for a presenter, I look forward to hearing from you! https://t.co/FGweUxb9ox

SO wonderful to be at the launch of my good palโs book today at the National Army Museum's Burma Day!! Feeling very proud of Lucy Betteridge-Dyson - a good friend, fantastic historian, and now a brilliant author! Folks, get yourselves a copy of Jungle Commandos!

6.30am this morning Me: By the way, if you see the cat with a paintbrush heโs allowed it, I gave him his own so he doesnโt steal my Airfix ones Husband: Is he allowed paint? Because he has that too. Me: WHAT?! Husband: Well, to be fair, if he has a brush heโs going to need paint

One of the greatest joys of my career has been getting to spend time with veterans like Jimmy. It was wonderful to see him again on Sunday - I feel so lucky to have been able to make such wonderful friends through writing! Thanks so much @AlistairBurtUK - great to see you all!
@SarahLouMiller reunited at Duxford with Dr James H Burt perhaps the oldest surviving RAF medic who served with Bomber Command 46-48, and flew in your beloved Lancaster. Thanks for your precious time with Dad & your fascinating chat. Well worth the mention in your great book!

Lots of people have asked me what it was like to fly in a Spitfire. In this video for 'A Touch Of History', I head to Duxford airfield and take to the sky in PT462, a WWII Spitfire. Find out what it was like: https://t.co/XuEtayDdBb

Yesterday I got to teach my wonderful little nephew about history and archaeology. We did a โdigโ in the back garden with very sophisticated tools, and then analysed our finds. Heโs hooked on history - very proud Auntie here.

The faces of two penguins who know what they did. I have been pooed on and pecked, courtesy of these fine lads. And I actually donโt mind at all, because itโs not every day you get to be a penguin keeper. Thinking about a career change ๐

What do historians do on their summer holidays? The history we can't fit into term time! I LOVE these Pictish painted pebbles found in Shetland. The pebbles are thought to be game pieces - a beautiful, fascinating window into the every day lives of the mysterious Picts.

New favourite fort: Fort Charlotte in Shetland was designed according to 17th C military theory with up to 12 guns on its ramparts - rumours of its strength dissuaded a Dutch invasion fleet from attacking Shetland in 1667. Everyone should have a favourite fort. What's yours?

Posted about building models in the shed. Was warned โnot to neglect time with my husbandโ (we actually build them togetherโฆ). Genuinely wondering if the same warning would have been given if I was a chap posting about building models in the shed ๐ค

Have you ever been to a place that stole a piece of your heart and wouldn't give it back? I recently left a piece of mine in Shetland. Thank you, beautiful islands, for calming my soul.

Having occupied the cabin at the end of the garden, I am turning it into a haven by spreading my aviation/maritime/steam train/classic car/superhero things all over the place AND NO-ONE CAN STOP ME. One of my faves - 'Captain America', by my nephew.

I can't stop thinking about beautiful Skidbladner. A full-scale replica of a 9th C Viking ship found in Norway, she was built in Sweden in 2000. The 3rd pic is one I took of her from inside the replica longhouse at the Viking Unst Project, Shetland. She calls to my inner-Viking!

Be honest. How many of you have been nap-trapped and refused to move until the fuzzy ones wake up? I just can't disturb him.
