One of my favorite articles that reinforces the value of handwriting is Steve Graham's: Want to Improve Children's Writing: Don't Neglect Their Handwriting.

Take a moment to consider the value you would place on your own ability to read. Consider the cost to our communities when only 35% of our students are provided the priceless privilege of being able to read proficiently. Read Aiden's story

The current research all supports the science of reading. The educational system needs a refresh starting with teacher education. They should be taught the science of reading to equip them with the best, most modern techniques to take into the classroom. #ScienceOfReading

Rewiring the brain from guessing (habit of a poor reader) to orthographic mapping is so much more difficult than just teaching them the right way from the start. πŸ’‘ #SOR #Literacyforall #readnotguess

And just to reiterate, St. Bonaventure, a small university nestled in the enchanted mountains of western New York, beat the University of Notre Dame in basketball today. Have a good night. @BonniesMBB

Early intervention is essential, but if we have our tier 1 instruction based on the research we would have less kids needing intervention.

Just in case the NAEP data of 30ish% proficiency nationwide isn't enough to scare you.... This shook me. If all adults in this country were reading at least on 6th grade level, we'd put $ 2.2 trillion back into the economy.

So true. Can we ease stop spending $$$$ on canned, non evidence-based programs, please?! SoR doesn't mean "fancy," either.

Teaching kids to read could be done very cheaply, and if we focused on that, even at the expense of other skills, we would be better off. The amount of money wasted in education is astounding.
