Just a reminder that I’m basically done with this Nazi-loving site after 15 years. I’m at the other place now where my posts aren’t throttled and I’m picking up followers about 6 or 7 times faster than on X. The transition was MUCH easier than I expected. https://t.co/nBEc2xsDGa

I had the honor of speaking on a recent panel about the boat strikes with Laura Dib (WOLA), Brian Finucane (Crisis Group), Katherine Yon Ebright (Brennan Center), and Amanda Klasing (Amnesty Int.). This is the most comprehensive discussion I have yet seen:

The drug war acts like a “price support” for traffickers. Cartels are the last people who want the war to end. We will never make drugs disappear by making them astronomically more valuable. Stop amplifying the motivational feedback loop of the people you’re trying to stop.
Most drugs cost pennies per dose to manufacture. But the higher the risk to the smuggler — like the risk of getting arrested, or blown up — the more they can charge. In short, our policies are making trafficking more profitable, not less. @SanhoTree:

Tobacco will kill 480,000 people in the US this year according to the CDC. That’s SIX times more than all US drug overdose deaths COMBINED. Does that mean Trump should bomb the homes of tobacco executives in the US? Here’s my debate on Al Jazeera:

NEW: Instead of learning from past U.S. drug war mistakes — like CIA contractors' killing of an American missionary and her infant daughter — Trump is carrying out still more extrajudicial killings without evidence. IPS scholar @SanhoTree:

Would it be okay for the Mexican military to blow up a US fishing boat because they believed it was smuggling deadly guns into Mexico, even if they offered no evidence? Would that be acceptable to this administration? asks @SanhoTree.

Not only is Trump’s tactic of blowing up supposed “drug boats” completely ineffective against actual drug trafficking — it’s a dangerous abdication of judicial process that has troubling implications for domestic policing, writes IPS expert @SanhoTree.

I don’t really post on this site anymore, but I wanted to share my Al Jazeera interview last night about Trump’s extrajudicial killings spree in international waters because of the urgency of the situation. Hegseth just announced his 10th attack.

Good conversation with Jenn Budd and IPS fellow @SanhoTree on how the drug war evolves both more lethal drugs and more innovative traffickers.
