Last month I was tasked to lead the Racism in Medicine LEADS track @BUMedicine. Impasses in the clinical encounter are the norm rather than the exception. This research is yet another piece of evidence of the importance of being culturally responsive when delivering care.
One-third of Black patients report bringing a companion into the exam room to observe and advocate for them. And, the study found, more than a quarter of Black Californians avoid medical care simply because they believe they will be treated unfairly. #EquityInMedicine is a MUST!.
