I will not stoop to the level of the TN General Assembly.
@brotherjones_
' district elected him and I will not silence their voice.
I will be voting to reappoint him.
Metro Council just voted to approve 10M in CARES Act funds to help with mortgage, rent, and utility relief.
This will make a world of difference for many Nashvillians struggling today.
You know what’s interesting to me? That
@AliceRolli1
plans on having her watch party at Plaza when I haven’t seen her in the Latinx community all cycle.
You know who I’ve seen? Freddie.
Hey
@MetroSchools
! MNPS graduate here. We should be supporting our students and teachers who choose to participate next week. These are not normal times and people keep dying.
The future is calling for change.
You can not say you respect these organizations and then vote against the interests of the people they represent. It doesn't work that way. Remember that.
@MarshaBlackburn
has made her legislative career by stripping women & minorities of rights. Seems hypocritical & deceitful of her to attend
#womensvote100
event w/ us in Nashville.
Today the Minority Caucus sent a letter to
@GovBillLee
regarding his recent statements.
Nashville has shown time and time again that we are a welcoming city.
Not to be overshadowed tonight, we approved $7,519,000 to provide affordable high quality childcare.
This is historic. The estimate is that a family would pay $42/week to provide childcare for one child. This is before any vouchers!
Part 1
In Nashville Latinos are 1/3 of the positive Covid cases. I can not tell y'all how frustrated and ANGRY I am. I am not sorry for asking questions. I am not sorry for continuing to push people. We needed answers and a plan yesterday.
Hey
@GovBillLee
I guess TN is a union state after all. I hear it’s spreading across the south 📢📢📢📢📢
Congratulations to the new
@UAW
members in Chattanooga!
Frankly I'm a little tired of trying to work within the rules that have been set for us by men who looked and sounded nothing like me. Who never lived or interacted in the communities I represent. Just because things have always been done a certain way does not mean it works.
I’m so proud of these two.
Stephanie came votes away from winning. She inspired a community. People voted for the first time.
Terry beat special interest. She went out there and fought like hell to represent multiple communities and won.
I am lucky to know them.
Please help us raise money to help the Mendoza family. The family was left with nothing and a mother and brother who will never come home. Raising a 7 and 12 year old on your own will be one of the hardest things Felipe will have to do.
Anything helps.
Bill Lee is anti-worker.
Unions ensure safe working conditions, higher wages, worker benefits, safeguard against retaliation, prevent wage theft, and a number of other worker rights.
You only care for corporations…not workers.
Today, I joined fellow governors in opposing the UAW's unionization campaign.
We want to keep good-paying jobs & continue to grow the American auto manufacturing sector. A successful unionization drive will stop this growth in its tracks, to the detriment of American workers.
It's important to remember that the state and some of my colleagues did not care when you voted not to shrink the council. They didn't think that mattered. It also didn't matter to them that many minority leaders across the county said this was going to impact representation.
It was an honor of a lifetime to unveil the Kurdish American historical marker today. I am proud that we as a city were able to recognize the importance of this community. Representation in all spaces is essential.
Shame on Sen. Taylor and those who voted to force our local law enforcement to report people to ICE. This is dangerous. The US has a history of detaining people just for looking Hispanic and on occasions deporting US citizens. This opens the door to discrimination and separation.
It's been a long day for me. I've been wrestling with the type of CM I want to be for my community. I finally remembered I hadn't eaten so I ordered food. This was attached to my food. They don't know how much I needed this today.
My family left California because of gun violence. My uncle was shot in a drive-by. We moved to Chicago and then left because of gun violence. We moved here when I was 5 and there is still gun violence. There is no running away from this. It is everywhere and it must change.
BREAKING: 3-judge chancery court panel rules that Metro is likely to win on home rule arguments, grants temporary injunction against cutting Metro Council from 40 to 20
My Abuelita Petra died in March. She would cross stitch. I wasn't able to say goodbye properly. I have been working on this for months somehow unable to finish it...until tonight. My grandma was my person. This is not perfect but it was the only thing I could think of.
All CMs have been invited to ride
@WeGoTransit
to Tuesday’s council meeting. It is important that in a growing, changing city we support and fund a system now and in the future that can meet all our citizens’ needs.
#RollWithWeGo
Several calls about apartments taking advantage of renters. Specifically Latino renters who pay with money orders. How do so many money orders keep getting stolen from apt complex offices? Why would it be the responsibility of your renters to pay what was stolen from YOUR care?
They want to review how we have spent our $121M when they should be focused on how they have spent their money. The committee and council has moved quickly to provide immediate relief to residents and businesses while the state has moved at a turtle like speed.
Let's review how Metro spent the money so far: mass $51M in mass testing/first responder/PPE purchase, laptops for students remote learning, rent/mortgage assistance to fight homelessness, nonprofit/small biz relief, food bank funding to prevent hunger. Which one's problematic?
16 years old. This is completely heartbreaking. We need to do a better job at protecting workers and ensuring their safty. This raises so many questions.
Descansa en paz Gustavo.
@NashvilleFD
it is not right that
@SirJoshuaBlack
is being reprimanded for giving his personal opinions on issues that affect minority communities. The same policy was not taken for other employees in the past. His suspension must be reconsidered.
I hope they sell tacos to raise money outside of his property and bring a mariachi band.
We have to protect our vendors. This man does not represent SE Nashville.
NASHVILLE, TN: “He came at me with racism and hatred, like I was an enemy… We deserve respect. We deserve a chance.”
White guy trashes immigrant’s fruit stand on the side of the road in Antioch, gets arrested for vandalism.
One year ago today I was elected to represent the district I grew up in. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Thank you to District 30 for putting your faith in me. Some of our plans might have gotten derailed, but we aren't going to stop working.
The politicians who would offer their "thoughts and prayers" in this state and at the federal level, and do nothing are cowards. They are empty words.
The priorities of this state are wrong.
The ARP committee has just voted to recommend $1,820,585 for
@tnimmigrant
and
@TNJFON
to provide free legal immigration services. The first major amount of funding we as a city would be putting in the immigrant community.
You know tonight’s lesson was what we taught the interns during “campaign school” at the

back in the day…. but we fed them pizza while they watched The War Room after.
Get more than 25 signatures.
Apparently pushing for equity is radical. Pushing for boards and commissions to reflect the city is radical. Pushing for the people to see themselves reflected in their government is radical.
If this radical then sign me up. I’m Pro equity.
Hey candidates, let’s not post minority people like props or tokens. How about you talk about the issues that are affecting these communities and listen when they tell you that those votes will negatively impact them…
Dear Metro candidates, attending events and meeting with organizations that represent minority people, workers, etc is great. Just remember them when they tell you legislation is going to impact their communities.
Keep the same energy.
I’ve been trying to figure out what to say. This is where I walk almost every day. I live right around the corner from this intersection. I walk to the market and grab food here. This could have been me. This could have been any of my neighbors who do the same. We must do better.
After 10 hours of driving from the airport, Denis Geovani Ba Che arrived home where his community was waiting for him. His family sends their gratitude for all the support they received to get their son home.
Thank you to everyone who donated. You helped them say goodbye.
Let me tell you this is not performative. My colleagues have been working hard to address our dire need for middle housing.
This is a housing crisis not a first act.
Listen, being an elected official is not easy, especially if you have a lot going on. The stakes are high and few people understand how heavy it is to carry that responsibility. Get help if you need it y'all.
I agree. We need to buy Nolensville Pike. Every single day I see this happen. It’s time for change. I have a visually impaired constituents who has a hard time crossing intersection, people walking on the shoulder of the road with no sidewalks, etc
LET’S BUY NOLENSVILLE PIKE
Every day I watch something stupid and dangerous happen on Nolensville Pike. Today it was a car driving in the "bike lane" almost hitting two pedestrians.
State roads through Nashville are not meant for a city. They're killing people. Buy them from the state and redesign them.
Looking forward to serving as Rules chair! Last term I led legislation reworking the way we appoint boards and commissions. We still have a lot of work to do specifically in not alienating people who are not able to vote from participating on city boards.
¡Pillas!

Excited for the opportunity to facilitate discussion as Chair of Transportation and Infrastructure!
I don’t do respectability politics. It has gotten us nowhere. That council is gone.
While some may see my support for Stephanie as a “lack of integrity.” I see it was an opportunity to give marginalized people representation they deserve.
Part 1
My heart goes out to the family during these difficult times.
Sidewalks should not be a luxury. It is a matter of life or death. I should not be able to count how many sidewalks are in my district. We need change. We needed it yesterday.
Did you know there are only 4 Latinx elected officials in the whole state? Just 4, and I'm the highest ranking one... and now you threatened to take a voice away. We only gained a representation on council in 2011.
You know what gets on my nerves.. the condescending way some people try to question my experience. I might be young but I've been working in politics for a long time and in the community for longer than that.
Happy first day of school! Here’s baby Sandra at
@haywoodcubsMNPS
! She’s learning to speak English.
I think she did ok but apparently she still pronounces pizza wrong. “Peekza”
Congratulations to the Consulate of Guatemala on their grand opening! Welcome to Nashville.
@terryvofornash
and I met with the Guatemala delegation this morning. We look forward to future partnerships between the city and Guatemala.
Thank you to everyone who came out to my swearing in yesterday! I’m looking forward to the next four year! We have a lot of work ahead of us.
¡Que viva la comunidad!
Im optimistic for what this next administration could potentially look like. Something so simple like coming before Latinx outlets yourself and not sending a proxy can mean so much to a community. It means we’re not leaving immigrant communities in the dark. It means we care.
