A little film to cheer up the miserable day - thanks to Rob Butterworth, who stayed with us in the summer for the drone footage.. it’s great to show the Sanctuary in the landscape... #offgrid #carbonneutral @CornwallAONB @GreenTourismUK @tevicornwall @FoweyInfo

Looks like a map of Cornwall!
Lovely to see in my local woods today, Uncommon Slime Mould Arcyria ferruginea, which holds a Reddish Pink colour, looking like Salmon eggs. Also present more common Trichia decipiens, stays Orange on White stalks @WoodlandTrust @s4r4h_l #myxomycetes #SlimeMoldSunday

That’s what I have, Alpine strawbs - prolific in a bed by the kitchen, still fruiting outdoors, and settling themselves in gravel too….have Mara des bois, also still doing well - might bring some of each undercover for next year!
Alpine strawberries, Alexandria allegedly, in hanging bucket in poly tunnel, still fruiting fairly well, next to it Mara des bois still cropping but mould now gets the berries just as before ripen

I have to write notes/take pics in the season or I would never remember where they were needed come planting time!
To show you how much of a monumental loser I am - here’s a sample of the PowerPoint presentation spring-me made for autumn-me to refer back to for allium gap filling. So that’s my job this afternoon since the bulbs have arrived.

And me! And to think I used to look on Dahlias as ‘boring’! 🫢

I thought my few remaining cavolo neros were toast, but they are happily growing again and giving us greens again! I did read somewhere that most brassicas are perennial, but we have become used to growing them as annuals?

Mine are nowhere near as beautifully arranged, but dahlias and chrysanthemums still going strong - and a 2nd appearance of Jasmine ‘clotted cream’….
The sun is shining and we’re in the pink for Cut Flower Friday brought to you this week courtesy of Cosmos ‘Dazzler’ and ‘Candyfloss Pink Sunrise’, Verbena bonariensis and Antirrhinum ‘Apple Blossom’. 🤗 #CutFlowerFriday

Except for slugs…….inside I have more control over them, otherwise they just don’t survive…
I’m starting to think lifting dahlias is a bit of an unnecessary myth - I never lifted any in London and they were all stronger in the ground. Those we grow in heavy wet clay-loam on an exposed site in Yorkshire survive outside too.

Beautiful - a wren took over our swallow nest earlier in the year - by building a bracken ‘extension’ on the top! Luckily for the swallows, mrs wren was not impressed at the alterations!
As the amazing first day of open studios draws to an end here is a shaky snippet of hand held film of the icon I’m painting at the moment. The nest builder. Male Wrens build several if not three or four nests for the female to choose from (high maintenance females)

Actually, that’s a good way of putting it - I love baking but by the end of the day have lost inspiration and energy to cook dinner - if I have more time it’s fine!

Ok….does anyone know if @edfenergy are contactable? They cancelled our account, gave us a shortened new one, which has run out, and we can’t get any help or switch because they have not added us to the national database - 3 years ago!

That gave me a shock - thought I recognised that mug..🤣 talking about the dog, obvs……our guests love the products especially with the local connection. Just wish it was easier to get hold of wholesale wise….
