While not every race went the way we hoped it would tonight, I am incredibly proud to be heading to the Iowa State House. When I get there, I'll be one of Iowa's youngest legislators and one of only a handful of Arab-Americans to serve in elected office, nationwide.
To all the unions, organizations, elected officials, activists and community members that supported me throughout this campaign, thank you!
I ran to make our community/state a better place, and you all were a big part of the reason that I was successful.
Here is my pledge to you: I will always be a voice for my community. I will always stand for working families over corporate profits. I will always put democracy first, and people over politics.
Thank you, Cedar Rapids! I can't wait to build a better future together.
