Excited to announce that we finally have a Steam page and a fancy new combat reveal trailer to go alongside the release.
RTs are very much appreciated and please wishlist the game, it really helps out 🥹
I never get tired of shooting off those limbs with this beefy shotgun. That's a pretty good sign considering how many times I played around with the VRmin placements to get something that felt tense and surprising (even though I kinda knew where they were).
Announcement Trailer for Samurai Unicorn, a PSX-style survival action game set in the futuristic city of Sydney3.

The focus for this week was all about Crawling VRmin and finding a nice level of personality in their animations. Love how Adam really captured the animalistic, somewhat predatory nature of these advanced VRmin types.
If you like what we're doing and want to support the project, our Patreon is how we are funding development of the demo. We have accomplished so much thanks to our patrons and really appreciate all the support that has been sent our way >
❗️Let's do one more giveaway❗️
If you want an NPC based on your likeness to appear in one of our hub areas, RT and follow us to enter. When we hit 7k followers we'll draw a winner and create a custom Sydney3 citizen that resembles you.
For those who have recently stumbled across us. Klo won't just be exploring dark and dingy buildings, she'll also be heading out onto the streets to experience that Sydney3 city life.
Taking the new quickstep and dodge roll for a spin. They're going to really help in melee combat when you combine them with the Unicorn abilities, but they also pair nicely with a little bit of close quarters running and gunning.

Stumbling into 2023 like... We're slowly getting back into the swing of things and are looking forward to showing off more updates throughout the year.
"I know you're here, Corpse Processor, you big fucking nerd. Where's my goddamn Uncle?"
Almost time to properly work on the boss fight, so here's an early look at the arena and the theme music for Corpse Processor.
The Parasitic Gauntlet gives Klo the ability to take VRmin on directly, but Unicorn won't be able to protect her from every attack... Try to block the wrong one and you're going to quickly end up in a vulnerable position.
Do you like Dead Space dismemberment and RE2remake style exploration? Then you're going to enjoy the first patron demo for Samurai Unicorn.
More info coming soon.
Completely blown away by the response to the trailer over the weekend, so here's a quick clip of some progress on the enemy AI to celebrate. VRmin will now bang on the door and try to bust through if you hide in a different room.
We're making a horror action game with retro graphics and reactive enemies that can be dismembered by the player.
At the moment we're working on some updates to the scripted events you can stumble across in our demo

A pretty comprehensive look at where the player movement and combat abilities are right now. There's a few extra things we didn't get to show off in this clip, but I think it's all starting to form a solid foundation for the core gameplay.
Like what we're doing and want to support development of the game? We've relaunched our Patreon with better benefits for everyone no matter what tier you sign up to.

With the arrival of the Dream Eaters, VRmin across the city have started pushing further into populated areas and new variants of the creatures are being spotted in previously secure locations.
Just want to thank everyone who has RT'd our trailers and WIPs over the past year. We've got no press contacts or anything like that, but thanks to everyone sharing our posts we're steadily growing and getting the project in front of new people!
Shooting a VRmin has the potential to trigger a stumble reaction that is different depending on where they were hit. A well-timed stumble could help you get out of tight situation... Or you could just panic and sink a whole clip into one like I did.

Life in Sydney3 can be pretty hard, especially down in the lower levels. Sometimes the best way to survive is to align with one of the many factions that make up the complex cultural fabric of the city.
The spirit of MGS1 cutscenes are alive in Samurai Unicorn. Sure facial animations and lip synching is nice, but tell me you can't feel Klo and Gabe's personality here and I'll call you a liar.
Made some tough calls about Mass Hack and found a way to bring it over to the first mission as a chase sequence that leads into the Goliath Offices. Here's a look at how the Broadcast Studio is fitting into the Industrial Sector environment.
Playing around with encounter design and some other scripted events to help the Goliath Offices feel a little more lively, despite being an "abandoned" building.

You could use all your shotgun ammo removing a Bruiser's leg, or you could aim for the little growth on their head... Or you could get in close and use those Unicorn abilities for a bit of extra style.
I don't think we've shown a level this early before, but here is the freshly greyboxed layout for the next hub area.
It's super messy, but I really just wanted to get a feel for the space and how the S3PF command would work as our central hub.
A lone VRmin doesn't pose much of a threat to an experienced S3PF detective like Gabe, but stumbling into a nest full of them is a tough situation to get out of.
Klo can now Downstab crawling enemies when she gets behind them and we've also added in new hit reactions to help the melee combat feel more responsive.
Project Update (1st of April 2024): Thinking of shifting directions and making a post-apocalyptic surfing game instead of the current action horror thing we've got going...
The overall look of Samurai Unicorn has really grown in the last month or so as we experiment with a new UI design and push for more colour in the lighting.
Some new gameplay mockups to show off some of the new environments and features we've working on. 2022 is going to be the year we get a demo out, hopefully we can get as many features fleshed out as possible.

If you time your deflect just right you'll stagger the enemy and open them up to the finishing blow. It's still a work in progress and the Unicorn FX need a good update, but our first finisher is in the game!
Every time new people find us through the gunplay teasers, they seem really confused by the name... So here's some WIP gameplay of the Unicorn abilities in a newly completed area of the Goliath Offices.

This clip has it all. New music, the Frogpunk outfit in action, VRmites hatching from Gestation Pods, and a brutal demise at the hands of the new VRmin types.
Please ignore my terrible attempt at trying to parry the Prowler.
Getting a feel for the opening sections of our demo level and trying out a simple environmental puzzle. Stick around for the end of the video to see one of the new places you might find a VRmin while exploring the Goliath Offices.

Between missions Klo will have the chance to explore intimately crafted sections of the city, these moments will provide opportunities to learn more about the people of the city and how her actions affect them.
Get ready to take down VRmin nests and hit the streets of Sydney3 in style with the latest in Frog Inc. fashion! Who's rocking the Frogpunk look when Samurai Unicorn drops?
Another stroll down the Broadcast Bazaar now that we've got some more signage sorted out. I think the next big step is getting all the NPCs and some wildlife in there and going about their business.
@PolyDepression
We're making an action horror game that combines third person shooting and exploration with melee combat that focuses on precise, but deadly sword attacks. Playing as Klo, you'll fight a plague of creatures threatening to overrun a cyberpunk-styled Sydney3.
For no reason in particular, please enjoy this sneaking suit Klo. Not going to be in the game, we just really love Metal Gear Solid and the look of it on PS1.
Announcing our first original bonus outfit for the game: Klo's S3PF Academy Uniform! Also, if we hit our new goal, we will open a poll where our patrons can vote on the next outfit that will be added to the game. We've got some fun ideas, but the decision will be up to you.
Between missions Klo will get the chance to explore intimately-sized NPC Hubs and meet the diverse cast of characters that make up the city of Sydney3.
❗️The Final Sydney3 Citizen Giveaway❗️
We're giving everyone who follows us one last chance to get a character based on your likeness. All you have to do is RT this post and be a follower. We'll draw a winner when we reach 9k, but if we hit 10k we'll draw a second.
Downtown Market City has quite a lot of work to go before it will be ready as an NPC Hub, but here's a look at the early version that was used for the announcement trailer.
We really want our NPC Hubs to be alive in a more authentic way. What are the sort of people or behaviours that you don't get to see often that would help a location feel more interesting to explore?
Exploring some of the planned gameplay features through our UI mock-ups. We're hoping to capture an almost retro look with the design that hopefully gives a sense of what the technology of Sydney3 feels like.
The Loading Bay is one of the more difficult encounters that you'll face in the Goliath Basements. Here's some messy gameplay of me struggling to deal with the surprise Prowler and other VRmin ambushes.
VRmites will now leap from their Gestation Pods if you get too close... Try not to dawdle when moving around them, it might not end well for Klo if you do.
We'll turn this obnoxious tutorial prompt off if you promise not to waste bullets on the VRmin's armoured head... If you continue to shoot their head, we will write "shoot off their limbs" in blood on the floor.
Explore abandoned megastructures overrun with VRmin and meet interesting characters on the streets of Sydney3 to help Klo uncover the corruption controlling the city.
VRmite pods grow best in humid locations, makes sense that Corpse Processor would convert the pumping room into a nursery... Anyway, here's some messy gameplay showing off the new organic growth that we've added to the basement areas.
From the slums in the old warehouse district, to the luxury apartments of the Nimbal Plateau, day-to-day life in Sydney3 can look very different depending on what sector you're in.
Time for another ❗️Custom Character Giveaway❗️
Want to be in the world of Samurai Unicorn? To be in running for a custom Sydney3 Citizen all you need to do is like and RT this post! Then we'll select a winner from our followers when we reach 4K.
Frog Inc. is one of the most popular clothing brands in Sydney3, but for the past 6 months the company's colossal textile factory out in the Industrial Sector has mysteriously gone quiet... What could cause the factory to cease operations during the height of their popularity?
First S3 Citizen of 2023!
One of the barflies that frequent Snoofers, Dr. Lux is a former army doctor who served during the resource wars of the early 21st century. Though he is no longer licensed, Lux has been known to help the citizens in the lower levels when needed.
Introducing bonus outfits means finding efficient ways to swap Klo's look in-game. We've still got a bit of work before it's perfect, but here's a glimpse of the Academy Uniform in action. Please also enjoy Klo freshening up with the HEAL-EX item's new effects.
@horrorvisuals
We're making a third person action horror game featuring some creepy locations to explore and weird creatures to fight with the power of Samurai Unicorn.
Also it takes a lot of inspiration from late era PSX games.
Playing around with some of the new dust particle systems to give the Goliath Offices a more abandoned feel as well as doing a test run on the new idle behaviours for our basic VRmin types.

We're building an atmospheric action survival game with combat that feels like Dead Space meets Bloodborne. We really want to build the world of the game out with unique locations and a cast of memorable characters for the player to interact with.
It's time for new Patreon Art Prints and maybe the start of a new sub-series focusing on the bosses you'll face in the game. We're kicking this Dream Eater series off by giving our favourite creep the spotlight.
Everything is made of concrete and rusted metal, but that doesn't mean it can't be colourful... Sydney3 is a vibrant city filled with all sorts of interesting sights to explore and characters to meet.
This year we made the decision to overhaul everything and create the game of our dreams by working with
@_ericfreeman
as our lead dev and bringing on
@RobLopatto
to help create some updated city models. Can't wait to see what we get done in 2022!
The anime style OP for Samurai Unicorn is here!
We had a lot of fun cramming all sorts of homages into this one, while sneaking in some hints about the story and character arcs. Big thanks to our friends at
@nhtheband
for creating the theme for us and inspiring us to make this.
A little walkthrough of an NPC hub area that we've been working on this week... The Industrial Sector will be home to some of the more unscrupulous businesses that deal in stock the S3PF have classified as contraband.
Exploring the NPC hubs between missions will allow you to meet characters from some of the different factions that exist within the lower levels of Sydney3.

There's a lot of new stuff in the teaser trailer that just premiered. Big thanks to the

team for asking us to take part and congratulations on a great show!
Enter the former offices of Goliath out in the industrial sector and discover the reason why this seemingly average office building was hastily abandoned over a decade before.

We're working on an action game that takes inspiration from Bloodborne and Dead Space with some body horror moments thrown in for good measure.
