Thread: A Map of Rugby. There's a lot of terminology in rugby that is taken for granted and isn't always explained. I thought I would try and help. Different teams/countries will use different language so this isn't a dictionary. But should help you find the way!. 1)

Liam Coombes (Winger - 28-years-old). Super strong winger/fullback with a great burst of speed and balanced running. Injuries have taken their toll but Coombes got time with Munster A and has a very impressive record with a try every 2.5 matches. 28)

Unfortunately Twitter has a limit on the number of tweets in a thread. I've continued on from here so please take a look for the second list of names!.

Tim Cardall (Lock - 28-years-old). Incredibly powerful player all round the pitch. Mastery of the lineout plus tonnes of experience having shifted over to the Rebels in Super Rugby when Wasps went under. Very strong tackler - would be at home in France. 26)

Matty Rea (Backrow - 31-years-old). Predominantly a backrow but has also featured in the second row. An Ulster legend who is still performing at the highest level. Four turnovers won last season, with an 86% tackle success rate - 6th best for Ulster. 27)

That is the first set but I'll keep adding to this as we go. Once again, if you're a player or a coach or a fan and you think there's someone I should add please let me know. For players, I won't reveal that you asked. 25.

Corrie Barrett (Tighthead - 27-years-old). Came over from Doncaster to Ulster this season and more than held his own in the URC. Even bagged three tries from powerful short range carries. Can flatten opponents in defence and cause chaos in the scrum. 24)

Steff Evans (Winger - 30-years-old). Ran wild just a few seasons ago scoring 12 tries in 2022-23. Opportunities have been limited since then but he's still found a way to put his mark on matches when he gets the ball in his hands. Little doubt he can refind his form. 23)

Shaun Evans (Hooker - 28-years-old). A bustling hooker who has been successful on 19 of 22 lineout throws this season in the URC and Challenge Cup. 80% + tackle success rate and five turnovers won in the last couple of seasons. Could be a very smart pick-up for someone. 22)

John Poland (Scrum-Half - 28-years-old). Irish born scrum-half who has been carving it up in MLR. Also had a very productive season with Manawatu in the NPC over in New Zealand towards the end of 2023. Super smart player and lightening quick. 21)

Billy Burns (Fly-Half - 31-years-old). Burns' has been based out in Ireland since moving to Ulster in 2018 and has had a brilliant seven years. His crosskick is arguably the biggest weapon with six tries scored from them in just two seasons. Massive experience. 20)

Sebastián Cancelliere (Winger - 31-years-old). For my money, the best winger in the URC just a couple of seasons ago. Even last year he bagged 8 tries in 15 matches and 4 in 19 this year. Still more than good enough to be an improvement for most teams. 19)

Lloyd Evans (Fly-Half - 29-years-old). Difficult season for the Dragons, but Evans has been the glue in that backline. He's played in 13 games, scoring points in nine of those. A good distributor with enough pace and power to worry defenders with ball in hand. 18)

Conor Oliver (Backrow - 29-years-old). Spoke to a number of Connacht fans who cannot believe Oliver hasn't been resigned. He's a dynamic carrier, as you can see from the clip below, with a host of experience with 97 matches for Connacht. 17)

Tom Daly (Centre - 31-years-old). The ex-Connacht man has had a strong season in Nice even as the team as a whole have struggled. He's been a key part in getting the backline firing and has been a solid block in defence. 16)

Michael Faleafa (Backrow - 33-years-old). He's been a regular for Mont-de-Marsan over the last four seasons. Faleafa is a classic number eight with a strong carrying game and also a great distributor who can play out towards the edges. 15)

Pierce Phillips (Lock - 32-years-old). Very strong player who's been brilliant in his last two season at Grenoble as they've turned into one of the best teams in Pro D2. Hugely physical but his role includes playing as a link man for their expansive attack. 14)

Marco Fepulea'i (Tighthead - 30-years-old). Samoan battering ram who came to Pro D2 (and Colomiers) via Major League rugby. Anchors the Colomiers scrum, who had a brilliant season this year, and is more than happy in the loose. Could be a great pick-up. 13)

Sam Johnson (Centre - 32-years-old). Played in Brive for the last two seasons after moving from Glasgow. Still performing at the highest level and his distribution and carrying are excellent. I'd expect him to be picked up by a French side in need of a midfield general. 12)
