To save the British tax payer the already massively inflated cost of £3000/month to house an asylum seeker, they are spending £166,000 per month on housing that same asylum seeker on a barge. Let me repeat that. £166,666.00 per month, PER PERSON. That's Tory economics. /1

Grant Shapps literally imposed ULEZ implementation as a condition of TFL getting extra funding support at the height of the pandemic. And now he has the barefaced gall to accuse Sadiq Khan and Labour of imposing ULEZ, ie doing exactly as instructed by him. No shame. None.

Labour will take this as a win, but hardworking people will lose because Sadiq Khan doesn't care about hitting drivers with unneeded costs Lets see what kind of Leader @Keir_Starmer is. Time to get off the fence & tell your Mayor to do the right thing and stop the ULEZ expansion

Rishi Sunak flew London to Blackpool in a 14-seat RAF jet, it would have taken 3 hrs by train. He did the same to Leeds, which is 2.5 hrs by train Private jets are 14 times more polluting than commercial planes; 50 times more than trains Politicians don’t care about the climate

1/ Here's a🧵on why the record shattering extremes in Europe are so unsettling for climate scientists. It's increasingly looking that we've underestimated the impacts of #ClimateBreakdown... https://t.co/vMonwth7wP

BREAKING: Rome, Italy just experienced its highest temperature in recorded history with 42.9°C (109.2°F). This beats the previous record from 2022 by 2 full degrees Celsius. That is a huge margin.

10 years ago, Allan Savory gave a TED Talk and sparked a global craze about healing the climate with ranching. His claims have been exhaustively refuted, but not many have asked — where does this myth originate? Join me for a horrifying history. 🐘🧵 https://t.co/ZHRC7kJw0R

Norway has a Ā£1 trillion + wealth fund for ordinary people, built over many years by taxing fossil fuel giants at 78%. Last year alone Norway collected $89bn in tax from fossil fuel giants. They then used that fund to pay people’s energy bills. There is another way.

Once it becomes acceptable in the UK to imprison people without any court process, knowing that some of them are not only innocent of any crime but are fleeing persecution, where will it end?

The MOTD saga has shown failure at the top of the BBC and the need to urgently protect its independence. We need leadership that can uphold British values and withstand Conservative attacks. Under Richard Sharp’s leadership this hasn't been the case. He must resign.

Actually surprised at how little is being written about SVB at the moment from UK press. I know the Linekar story is good news fodder. But presumably the range of outcomes of SVB on the economy are worth some column inches outside of the FT? For anyone in tech, it's been the

It was bad enough before. With today's amendment, the government has made this monstrous bill even more draconian. As in Minority Report, if this amendment is passed, the law can be used pre-emptively.
