Michigan! We meet again, for a fish conference this time. Last time it was to race to your island of car-free living and fudge. Why did I wait so long to return?

What's the deal with this you just say whatever you want? Why do/did people take this seriously?

Hey what's up Twitter? You and I have never really clicked, but FB ain't what it once was, and the Gram just wants to be TikTok. I now feel that it's comfortably out of fashion for me to engage with you. I have no idea the etiquette here! I mainly used you for hating Delta

One problem with the pressure for grad students to publish is that their analysis is likely to be undercooked and over claimed and it's not their fault.

"thanks to wildlife ecologists" raves the NY Times. I have detected human DNA in NYC's rivers, but nothing I could ID someone from.

Wildlife researchers have refined techniques for recovering environmental DNA, or eDNA — floating in the air, or lingering in water, snow, honey and even your cup of tea — posing dilemmas for the preservation of privacy and civil liberties. https://t.co/CuUVFJtRkK

eDNA, AI, and urban ecology all exist on the interface between the rigid mechanical world and the defiantly organic one.

I first read/listened to DUNE while towing a sailboat across the deserts of California, Nevada, and Utah. My terrible purpose was to race that boat in a reservoir in Colorado.

Spoiler: it's rat poison. Our attempt to control rats is harming the very animals best adapted to hunt them.

“Being” really doesn’t get enough credit as an action verb, but it’s a pretty impressive achievement and my favorite hobby

I was excited to have a job lined up for five years, but @CUNY has done a good job of being late with my funding nearly every semester that I’ve been here. I don’t need much, but I do need it on time.

@nelsonlflores My grad school stipend gave me financial security for the first time and I was like: all I have to do is go to class and study for all this money?????

California was on fire the whole month I was there. I come back to New York in time to see the city flooded by a 200 year storm and the rainiest hour on record. It’s like it’s trying too hard to show me it’s the better state for an aquatic ecologist.

Anthropologists: can you PLEASE stop featuring photos of yourself in the field wearing native garb, taking notes while young children hold electronics and stare at them in wonder? It's not a good look.

I am completely enthralled with the herd of 15 elephants in China that have wandered hundreds of miles from their home through towns and cities. One had a baby. Others got drunk. They eat pineapples by the truckload.
