About as good of a display of sportsmanship that I have been around. New Lex's Carson Kellogg and Maysville's Sammy Scott helping carry Morgan's Kyle Campbell to the finish line after Campbell severely injured his hamstring during the 200m at MVL meet. Be proud MVL.
If you're a high school principal meddling in a head coach's game-day decision about who plays and who doesn't, you should excuse yourself from the position. And if you're a parent going over a coach's head to forge complaints, you should do the same.
Sheridan's Ethan Heller named second-team All-Ohio by the Ohio Prep Sprotswriters Association. I can say I'm officially embarrassed to be mentioned in such company. If Heller isn't a first-teamer, we've never had one, plain and simple.
Thanks to the Muskingum Valley Old-Timers Association for our induction into your Hall of Fame. It has been an honor for us to serve our communities for so long.

Cars lined up into the streets to get takeout from Adornetto's and The Barn earlier this evening. Say what you want about Zanesville. People rally behind each other here. Always have.
Sheridan has won eight straight games at the district level in Division II. When considering some teams can't win a sectional, this accomplishment deserves its own place at the table for all-time greatness in the Muskingum Valley League.
Just a word to local schools: If we can't make it to a college signing, there is a reason. We're one of the few papers who still even cover them, and we go to every one we can if our manpower allows. Bitching and moaning publicly will get you nowhere.
A six game schedule is nothing short of a disservice to playoff system. Part of what makes high school football great is the process it takes to get to the postseason and what it means to get there. That has been totally eliminated. Just hand every kid a participation award.
The worst thing about the
@OHSAASports
playing every first-round playoff game on Friday night is that small news staffs have to unfairly pick and choose which games to cover. If the brass were in our shoes, they’d think twice.
I’ve been covering basketball for 21 years. Tonight’s atmosphere at Muskingum was one of the top two or three I can remember. Larry Shank and the rest of the Muskie contingent did it right.
“Night of Champions” at Sheridan High School tonight. Congrats to all of those who attended to be recognized, & for all of the great accomplishments in our District this year!

Philo honors Muskingum County Sheriff’s deputy Zack Smith, who died on Wednesday in a car crash on U.S. 22, with a moment of silence prior to its softball game against Maysville. Smith was a former Panther athlete.
Many of us grew up taking high school football for granted at our schools. Friday nights at Village Park were sacred for us. Can't even imagine what Rosecrans players are going through right now.
First time time for Sheridan girls in final four since 2003-04 under coach Doug Fisher and trusty assistant Mark Paxton. They'll be having a good time in Somerset tonight.
When I got this job in January 1997, my first goal was to cover the Buckeyes. The second was to cover a state champion at Crooksville, my alma mater. Both missions have been accomplished. Congrats to Teck Kirkpatrick and Coach Scott Houk on a heck of a job.
When Jason Munyan is being hoisted into the air by Holden Bowen, good things are usually happening for the Sheridan offense. With 253 yards and 5 TDs on 27 carries, I'd say that qualifies.
Our board members and district administrators presented
@SamBlackburnTR
with the Ohio School Boards Association Media Honor Roll 2019 Recognition at tonight’s monthly meeting.
Congrats to Rosecrans coach Todd Rock for coaching in his 600th game tonight against Delaware Christian. He'll surely downplay the accomplishment, but he deserves credit for sustaining that kind of longevity.
Zanesville High School's Kevin Martin talks with former Ohio State All-American Bill Hosket during the OHSAA Circle of Champions ceremony at the Division I state tournament on Saturday at UD Arena. Martin became the first ZHS grad to be inducted.

It’s a packed house here waiting on John Glenn’s Colt Emerson to get the call during the

draft party at The Barn in Zanesville. Join us live.
I still can’t wrap my head around 4 MVL volleyball teams in the regional and very easily could have been five. That has to be some sort of league record.
@ESPN_ReceDavis
I have interviewed three people at once on multiple occasions. It’s definitely not the preference, but it can certainly work if you tell them everyone isn’t talking at once. That’s a pretty lame excuse from someone who has been around long enough to know better.
Congrats to St. Clairsville's own Donnie Giffin, officiating legend, for being part of this year's class of the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame. Always look forward to seeing him on the baseline.

Capital's Thomas Wibbeler passed for 511 yards and ran for 85 more in a 51-50 loss to Marietta on Saturday. His former Zanesville teammate, Dar Stanford, had 7 catches for 153 yards. Losing cause or not, that's an unworldly day for these former Blue Devils.
Congrats to Maysville's Bailee Smith on her commitment to Youngstown State today. That girl lays it on the line every time out, regardless of the season. Penguins are getting a hell of a competitor.
@baileerose14
It was a good day at Tri-Valley. Seniors Jake McLoughlin (Ashland), Jordan Birkhimer (Ashland) and Alyssa Edwards-Frick (Wheeling Jesuit) signed their letters of intent to play in college.

Jason Munyan's monster night included 323 rushing yards in Sheridan's 33-0 win at Tri-Valley. Generals improved to 5-0 and stand alone atop MVL Big School division.

John Glenn’s Joseph Clifford state champ in 110s and Sheridan’s Ethan Tabor fifth; Sheridan’s Jacob Rhodes runner up in the 100. This on the heels of a runner-up from Maysville’s Keith Bryan in HJ. Awfully good start for the MVL today.
There were 88 free throw attempts during the Sheridan-Tri-Valley game tonight. Sheridan shot free throws on 11 of its 12 fourth quarter possessions. In 21 years of covering basketball, that's a first for me. Can't say I'd like to watch it again.

Sheridan loses some great seniors, but Beckstedt, Stinson, Mick, White, Grace Conrad and others due to return. Generals were in this game until the end without Rachel Cooke, a 1,000-point scorer, because of depth.

Crooksville golf has won a Division III district title and will play in the state tournament. First team to qualify for the state in any sport there since 1993.
Two regional games come down to a foul in the final second at Winland Gym. That’s hard to swallow if you’re on the wrong end of that at any time, let alone games of this magnitude.
The Bobcats held their first scrimmage of fall camp this morning! Afterwards,
@OhioBobcatTV
and
@RussEisenstein
caught up with head coach Frank Solich to see how it went. 🏈🏈
All you
@TVDAWGS
fans got even more to cheer about this fall — Jake McLoughlin is headed back to the gridiron. The former standout WR/FS was a critical piece to the D-III state final team in 2017.

Philo’s Shawn Barnhouse among those inducted into the school’s Alumni Wall of Honor.
@OhioStateFB
fans may recognize this face ... he’s your head athletic trainer.
I’ve seen some of the best post players our area has produced. I don’t remember one better than Faith Stinson. Jessica McKenzie is the only who is close.
I've seen some great games in 23 years. This one is up there with any of them. Hell of an effort from two great competitors. Doug Fisher and Matt Voll did a great jobs getting their kids ready.
New Lexington's Luke Shively broke Matt Adams' single-season school record for victories with his seventh place match win at 220 pounds. He won, 14-7, over Upper Sandusky's Connor Johnston.
