Had a bit of time on the train to Wigan this morning to give my opinion on yesterday’s League One opener, and why the first few games shouldn’t impact pre-season predictions (too much). Going to use this substack a bit more this season - give it a read!.

Game 2 of my 2025/26 season. The Peninsula Stadium - Salford City vs Blackpool. To say I did three years here at uni on a journalism course, working in the Salford press box for the first time this evening.

10 minutes into a near 2 hour train journey and the headphones have died. Not sure there’s a worse feeling in mankind.

Leeds fans, Leeds players, Salford players and Salford fans didn’t think it was a try. There was actual collective confusion across the entire ground when the screen turned green, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before in my entire life.

Last Friday I officially became a Broadcast Journalism graduate at @SalfordUni. Delay of the post could be down to a hectic weekend/working week, or because the professional photo didn’t get to me until today (I’ll let you all decide). Very excited to see what’s next!

Non-league football, aye?.

Aware a lot of football clubs began their pre-season last weekend (or are set to this week). If any club, regardless of level, wants a commentator over any highlights/games, drop me a DM. Currently have my July weekends booked up, but very free for midweek games!.

What I will say though is that, regardless of league finish, you wouldn’t want to see this Leigh side at all in the playoffs if you’re a Wigan fan.
