I am part of the mass layoffs at the Washington Post. I am sad and angry. We all want to keep doing the work. But for now I want to document a reality of being in journalism today.

I want to sincerely thank one of the great writers out there, @barrysvrluga, who will sadly be closing this chapter with the @washingtonpost…you have covered the highs and lows of my career with integrity and passion. Thank you. Looking forward to following your next chapter.🙏
There's something about the Olympics that makes them pressure-packed. Being able to handle the stresses and perform is an athletic skill that's worth admiring. But so is admitting to succumbing to it. As the Games close, a look at the pressure within. https://t.co/lBvRxAlSed

"There's whiskey drinkers and milk drinkers, and we've got a lot of whiskey drinkers on this team." On a real rivalry, an epic gold medal game, and the stark contrast between winners and losers to close the Olympics. My last dispatch for the Post.

“I think it’s probably gonna go down as one of the greatest games ever played,” American defenseman Jake Sanderson said.

Meagan and Jenny are must follows for anyone who cares about DC news. One example: Last week, they broke the news that a nonprofit misused $400K in public funds. Despite the challenges at WaPo, they are still paying attention and holding power to account.
To our D.C. readers: While we can still barely quantify last week's loss, just a note to say @jennygathright & I and a small but committed Metro team are still here. In such a consequential year for the city, we plan to give it everything we've got. Hope you'll stick with us.

You failed, mate. You epically, monumentally failed, and showed yourself to be a coward in the process. Hope the Super Bowl is brilliant.

Unloved, visionless, ethically challenged WashPost publisher Will Lewis to step down. Cheers everywhere. https://t.co/lWWllLSI1H via @NYTimes

His departure came days after the company cut 30 percent of the staff. He will be replaced in the interim by Jeff D’Onofrio, the chief financial officer, the company said.

Just to be clear, there were no 2,000-word features on a local basketball team. More than anything, it speaks to the lack of engagement with the sports department from whoever this unnamed person is, someone who likely helped decide the fate of dedicated reporters and editors.
thoughts from senior management on the gutting of the Washington Post this week: They say job cuts will allow the paper to break even this year, & Bezos will then invest more. lots more details in our story: https://t.co/897thVMJ9J

Killing the paper’s sports section doesn’t mean missing the Super Bowl. Unbelievable stuff.
Will Lewis was too busy to join the call to tell his staff he’s destroying the @washingtonpost sports department yesterday … but he did have time to walk the red carpet at NFL Honors here in San Francisco today. Amazing.

In the last hours before these Olympics begin, and the flame is lit, and the cheering starts, a smaller, sad drama played out in a little white box of an office in the Main Media Centre in Milan. A...
