As Nithraid nears the end of its Source to Sea project, event producer Sal has written a blog, looking back at how the Nithraid team were able to reimagine the annual River Festival and create a completely digital project this year. @SaltyCoo https://t.co/nwUFWKEtD8

Among the towns and villages along the Nith is the small village of New-Abbey. The village was recently featured in the local press for their community spirit. With a community a “swap box”, or the local store delivering supplies to those in need, community is key in New Abbey 🤝

I've been working on Guided by Environment #4 recently. #4 was made as part of this year's #Nithraid I made a song using only one recording of the Caul at the Whitesands. Give it a listen #Dumfries

On the way out to the coast, we pass by Sweetheart Abbey- so named because the patron who funded its construction, Lady Devorgilla, is buried here with the embalmed heart of her husband which she kept long after his death 💀 💓

With 1400 acres of wetland teeming with wildlife, the wetlands centre at Caerlaverock is an important place for the species that live by the river. Swallows gathering; wildflower meadows full of bees, butterflies and dragonflies; the occasional osprey- all great reasons to visit

It wouldn't be a trip along the Nith without some magical tales- even about the legend Merlin. Said to be a druid driven mad by the slaughter of his tribe, Merlin wandered southern Scotland; and now thanks to the Merlin trail, you can follow in his steps! https://t.co/RL2PSgHuai

One of its most striking features is its triangular design which gives it a truly unusual feel and likely aided its defense during the turbulent cross-border warfare of the Middle Ages.
