We love our boxes and will continue to ship them, but it's just crazy to think of the irreversible things that happen when you make certain decisions It's also much harder to undo a decision than it is to make one

- You get boxes to protect your product, but then because the box is nice, you need another box to protect the box - Switching warehouses becomes much harder because the size of your inventory is bigger... it's literal baggage 😂

Suddenly: - We can no longer ship via airfreight because what used to fit in 1 carton now needs about 10 cartons worth of space - Above increases lead times by months - Dimensional weight suddenly matters - Storage costs go up - Box costs add more to production than expected

When we were getting started our totes and weekenders were folded down and put in an unbranded mailer I always thought this was a bad thing because the receiving experience was meh I'd dreamed of having real boxes one day but didn't understand what that meant until we got em

When you start from scratch you tend to underestimate side effects from scale What used to be a small decision with limited downside can now make / break entire profit margins For instance, here's an example on how just improving packaging can trigger a butterfly effect:

Shopify app idea: plugin for monogramming - Choose which products have the add on - Button automatically appears on product page - Clicking it opens a modal with a nice preview for users to customize - Adds the monogram to cart with some custom pricing rules

Always thought D2C companies monogrammed via their 3PL We tried asking our warehouses, but nobody was willing - we even bought a machine for one of them... Turns out brands don't do this in house - you ship product to a 3rd party from your 3PL, they monogram, and then ship out

I'd think to myself, if I got to leave that hospital with the person I love, I'd never forget there's a whole world going on in there at any moment It's the biggest privilege to be able to choose how and where we spend our time

Not sure if there's a takeaway here - but I really do believe that growth comes in the hardest times Today when I get stressed about decisions that seem huge, I try to remember those nights in the hospital.

I sometimes have to remind myself that samara was born during the hardest year of my life - my mom had passed from cancer, and my now fiance was going through his 2nd battle with it At the time, I needed something meaningful to channel that energy into
