Catch Eye hack Richard Brooks tonight on ITV1 in The Covid Contracts: Follow the Money. The documentary tells the story of how the government went from having almost no stocks of PPE to having more than could ever possibly be used, and how some companies with little or no track

Discord in the land of song. #locgov
An Anglesey councillor who declared that “all Tories should be shot” has now suggested that his words are in fact a Welsh idiom. Independent councillor Ieuan Williams’s outburst came at a 2023 board meeting and was recently discussed at a standards committee hearing. PLUS news

There are facts. Then there's this. Not helped by council narratives (Reform and not) re soaring demand and huge costs - which aren't the fault of families needing support. Also not helped by media often lacking factual balance and other perspectives. https://t.co/Ylo2JfufLO

The Reform UK deputy leader says some children are receiving Send provision who do not need it.

Apathy: vital research🔽isn't shared just as research that could drive change [mortality review/'LeDeR', grim acronym] is shared only after pressure. And this review confirms what we already knew of inequality. And shows little change since 'annual' reviews began almost 10y ago.
What happened when we tried to send some information to the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) Health Issues Special Interest Research Group. It's a sorry tale. (Easy read and audio.) https://t.co/r0Bh27HgCp

Private Eye on Surrey’s SEND education - the worst performance in the country: “Yet the [Surrey] key movers and shakers who have presided over this mess are falling upwards, wielding huge influence over the government's planned SEND reforms.” https://t.co/a5PmoMiXZI

Chaos at cash-strapped Wirral council thanks to its bungled revamp of Birkenhead town centre – with one councillor suggesting the disused civic HQ become a, er, casino. Independent Conservative Kathy Hodson suggested the idea of turning the old town hall into a gambling mecca,

Yes definitely this, and how EHCPs make a difference to the rest of the family (and people's futures, obv).
Don’t forget the H and the C in the EHCPs (the media always does). Disabled children and young people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and providing good Health and social Care is essential to their future.

I wrote this on the latest Gregg Wallace hoo-ha for @theipaper "I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the vast majority of autistic men manage to hold down a career – day in, day out – without once feeling the need to get their tackle out in public". https://t.co/qk8mxxEZNF

It fully blows my mind how much misinformation is permitted to circulate about support for children and young people with SEND 🤯
@LBC @TiceRichard @TomSwarbrick1 Hi @TomSwarbrick1, I am a lawyer who represents parents of SEND children. @TiceRichard is completely mistaken in his view that the number of parents requesting EHCPs has risen so they can receive tax exemption in private school fees.

Horrendous prospect this: the rights-grab leaves children and families 'at the mercy of politicians who will then vandalise their lives'. #SaveOurChildrensRights
What I wrote on Sunday, and in today's FT, here it is. If Labour takes SEND families' rights away, this may well be what we have to face, with no defences
