🧵1/Our research in Aberdeen showed:.🏠 Only 37% of people living alone report getting 25% Council Tax reduction they’re entitled to. 💸 65% of respondents had debt — 17% owed Council Tax arrears. 👵 75% of pensioners feel worse off than last year, with many dipping into savings.

On safety, we heard from a large number of individuals about the impact of anti-social behaviour and poorly lit streets. Finally, on health and wellbeing, the report focuses on food insecurity and also on women’s experiences seeking help from their GPs.

On welfare & benefits, Heather explains the difficulties faced by individuals seeking support ("everything is a fight"), including lack of accesible information in relation to entitlements.

On care & caring, Heather provides some examples of what the report covers, such as the challenges faced by kindship carers. There needs to be a gendered lens applied to any policy development aimed at supporting this group, and others with caring responsibilities.
