Bus and coach entrepreneur / manager and former policy wonk for CPT. My opinions are personal.

It's a while since I rode the Stagecoach 17 bus from Horsham to Brighton. We have a driver under guidance today but he is making good progress, helped by the removal of the tedious loop around Partridge Green from this journey.

I am travelling from Reading to High Wycombe with Carousel Buses. The ride is pleasant but to say there is plenty of time is a wild understatement. I will watch for a kerb crawling warning letter in the post.

A real world moment from Crawley. The raising of the £2 fare cap meant that a weekly ticket (£25.65) made sense for the man in front of me. He couldn't afford to pay cash for it, so bought it with his credit card.

Interesting to see the evolution of seasonal operations on my local Stagecoach buses (Guildford). Sunday service on Boxing Day but no service on New Year's Day. Traditional early finish on Christmas Eve and NYE, although I predict the town will be super busy.

No contravision on this bus. Just sun blinds! Gurnard here I come.

The bus I am travelling on is late. The driver has made up some time by leaving pass-waving pensioners at stops. They don't look happy. Never mind. There's one twenty minutes behind.

In this not-uncommon design passengers cross a lane of traffic to get on and off trams. Local rules require the traffic to stop (which it does). Unusually, buses stop here at the same spot as the trams. Blumenthal Bratislava.

There is currently only one entrance/exit at Guildford station. SWR had a revenue block in place before 7am today. I would say that about 20% of the arriving passengers were caught without a ticket.

Many years ago I reluctantly negotiated EU rules for entering country codes into tachographs at borders. Today I rode on a coach where it was done. Twice.

The worst I've seen for a long time. Sharp edge, gap round door. One of the big operators.

I have made several trips on Sheffield Supertram in the last couple of days. It doesn't benefit from the Government's £2 price cap, and I have seen quite a few people pay more to ride on the tram than they could have paid on a bus. Price isn't everything, obviously.

I want to book a train ticket from Guildford to Colchester next Friday. Bizarrely, it's much cheaper to go to Ipswich so that is what I will do.

Speaking as a Surrey / Guildford taxpayer, I am delighted to see that Sadiq Khan has frozen London bus fares this year. Anyone would think he's up for election.

I'm riding on a bus that has had its roof reinstated for the Autumn. How did they select the right one from the pile, I wonder?

The first bus from Guildford to Alton is busier every time I use it. Nine on this morning. £2 fares? Rail strike?

Dilemma. I used to have a licence to drive buses but I'm a passenger today. The driver is giving a lovely smooth ride but he's just gone a bus length over the stop line at a red light. At the next set, he rolled back because he hadn't put the handbrake on. Should I grass him up?

Surprised to see the King and Queen getting off a large aircraft in Orly today, given his environmental interests. I have shared a Eurostar carriage with the Belgian royal family...

Rattlin' along on my travels (It's a Streetlite, so no surprise). There is a bus gate at the Queen Alexandra Hospital Coshsm that is clearly not part of the grounds because it was full of smoking health workers.
