Today, we joined forces with @rocsuaw and @SSWUAW —along with hundreds of researchers nationwide—to tell our elected representatives we need the NIH restrictions lifted now. Critical medical research can’t wait! #UnionStrong
UAW 4811 members joined hundreds of other researchers today to demand an end to Federal funding freezes. Together we called on our representatives to maintain federal funding in critical research areas like cancer, heart disease and diabetes research.

We would prefer to work together on these problems instead of wasting precious time debating whether we deserve a say in our working conditions. We urge @IcahnMountSinai to agree to honor our vote and start bargaining with us in the new year.

We formed our union to solve problems that undermine our research, both here @IcahnMountSinai and more broadly - to protect federal science funding and the rights of international scholars to work in the U.S, as @UAW academic workers did during the last Trump administration.

Over the past year, we’ve seen our @spocuaw postdoc colleagues go from winning a historic, standard-setting contract to developing a constructive working relationship with @IcahnMountSinai, resolving workplace issues in ways that strengthen Sinai's research mission.

Earlier today we and @spocuaw hand-delivered our demand to bargain to @IcahnMountSinai, urging them to respect the democratic choice of student workers who voted by an overwhelming 90% to unionize nearly 3 months ago, and commit to bargaining in good faith with us.

More than 60% of eligible student workers voted yes, sending a clear and unambiguous message to @IcahnMountSinai to respect the vote and commence bargaining with us.

While @IcahnMountSinai’s larger effort to overturn our right to unionize is ongoing, this allowed the NLRB to hold a full ballot count and announce the results of our historic election. We voted to unionize by an overwhelming 90%!

But yesterday, as the board prepared to tally the ballots, we learned that @IcahnMountSinai had decided to reverse course and withdraw their challenges to the voter list.
