Hi @NewcastleCC please can you provide a reminder to drivers about your School Street at @HotspurPrimary ? I stopped someone this morning as he drove up Mowbray St w-e, to remind him of restrictions. He claimed it was OK to drive that way, just not e-w!! https://t.co/YyxBPGRpgz

What does cause chaos is the 5% annual rise in road traffic and annual increase in the number of cars registered in the city. Adding some extra cones to make a single lane stretch of road slightly longer isn't going to address that.

Last Thurs, 9th Oct, 8-9am it took 4 mins more for some people to drive from Cowgate to the Tyne Bridge than on Thurs 10th Oct last year. In 4-6pm times were lower this year. During the day they were very similar. The black line is times before bridge work started.

In October 2022 modal filters were installed on streets in Heaton as a trial. Thanks to a traffic counter it was possible to to see what effect that had on one of the boundary roads. Traffic was down every week, by ~500 vehicles per day. Then the filters were removed... 1/3

In 2024 the trial scheme was cancelled and the modal filters were removed. Now the data from the traffic counter has been updated it's possible to see what effect of removing the filters had. Traffic was higher every week for comparable weeks by ~500 vehicles per day. 2/3

Although air quality on the bridge was getting worse yesterday, the absence of vehicles for a few hours today saw things improve so the runners got cleaner air to breathe on their journey to the coast.

It's been a busy day on the Tyne Bridge as it sees it's most efficient use of the year, with 60,000 people crossing in around two hours and road works to clear and reinstate to give the runners extra space. #GNR25

Is your street 'The Worst in the UK for Pavement Parking'? πŸš—πŸš— 5 years ago, the Government consulted on pavement parking in England. There are still NO plans to end this dangerous practice. Add your street to our pavement parking hotspots πŸ“ https://t.co/y9ykAD9tuz
