The relief of submitting my final piece of work is hard to explain. . Now all that’s left is 3 weeks as a student nurse. Exhausted, proud, and ready for a break before starting in my first community staff nurse role!

As one door closes, another has opened! My goal was to work as a community nurse to be able to offer end-of-life care to patients and families. I am delighted to have been offered a full time community staff nurse post in a district nursing team 🎉!

Ok so that’s two community jobs with a ‘no’ at the first shortlisting hurdle. Hours spent on those applications, though I will keep trying. BUT my dissertation is almost complete and for that I feel so much relief!

Every day I’m looking for NQN jobs for when I qualify in four months but there’s a lack of jobs. So I should be happy when my local hospital trust advertise? No, I’m just not a hospital nurse. Question is, do I put all my eggs in the community nursing basket?

100% on final medication exam ✅, one more shift of this placement, and then to finally present my poster on Motor Neurone Disease after 6 months of research on this brutal disease. A few more hurdles, but ready to be a nurse now!

Day 1 of my penultimate placement starts tomorrow (orthopaedic trauma). The end is within touching distance now and hoping the nursing vacancies will soon start to flow!

Day 1 of placement 3.1 begins with the same nerves and excitement. There’s a lot I will miss about being a student nurse at the end of this year, but I won’t miss that feeling of being ‘the new person’ every placement.
