Yesterday I finished my first external placement in mainstream community pediatrics. I enjoyed it so much more than I expected and can really see myself working in that role, which is a lovely way to feel at the end of placement!.

It also taught me that SLT doesn't need to happen in a formal setting, communication is all around us and everyone deserves to be able to communicate no matter their abilities or disabilities #mysltday.

Seeing this progress (amongst a whole load of other examples) and then witnessing the parents' reactions when they saw what their children had learnt solidified my passion for this field and made me so excited for my future career.

I spent a week in Lourdes this week with @hcpt supporting children with a range of needs. Throughout the week I watched a non-verbal child learn how to tell us what his favourite ice cream flavour is and watched another child with severe CAS do a solo of 'twinkle twinkle'.

Would definitely recommend this documentary, it was an emotional watch but it's so refreshing to see a wider range of autistic experiences being represented

These small actions set a precedent for young people, it shows them that they are respected by their educators and provides them with a model of how to respect others. I’m a big believer in leading by example and I hope I was able to do that successfully today.
