Great thread from @moise_nick on his recent work modeling atrial fibrillation. "AF begets AF" - Nick developed a framework to model this progression from healthy to disease tissue, coupling the electrical activity and substrate remodeling, a complex multi-time scale problem!
Glad to get this preprint out, with @SHWeinbergLab. In atrial fibrillation, chaotic activity directly drives substrate remodeling, which then influences the activity itself. But how does this process evolve long-term, as a coupled dynamical system? 1/13 https://t.co/tzbtvkqh7E

which informed model predictions of key currents underlying the age-progression of action potential and calcium transient characteristics. There's a whole lot more to do, and I'm exciting to see where the project will go next.

We were fortunate to find the perfect collaborator in the Posnack lab at just the right time. Fast-forward to now, and this project has led to an invaluable analysis (and data set) of cardiac gene expression throughout development (> 100 patients, age 5 days to adulthood), ...

For my group, this project started years ago with the seemingly simple question of – how do we model cardiac electric activity in pediatric heart cells? Which led us to the even more fundamental question of – what do we even know about pediatric heart electric activity?
