i love fighting games, and the fgc, but some of the gatekeeping is very unfriendly and discouraging. i've been told over and over again i'm not a real fighting game player because i was nominated for a for fun awards show. like, zoom out, what are we even doing lol

Worthy conversation to be had for sure
As much as I want to clown on this and how out of touch Capcom JP is with western audiences, there's a bigger conversation here about esports monetization models in the west vs. Japan. The old VC strat of capture market, monetize later failed here.

Maybe one of the worst takes of all time. It's as if they never read or discussed a singular GOAT discussion across any event, sport, or competition. Time exists in all these discussions and context and rules change so often, yet many still hold true to certain players/people.
In these fgc goat conversations. How come y’all never say let’s have a exhibition with the games from the past and present games between your favorites in those iterations? Are you all avoiding this scenario for some reason? If so I wonder why?
