Check out the latest @ACPIMPhysicians @IMMattersACP from the Director of our division and fellowship Dr. Sri Mitta on why taking an obstetric history in primary care, regardless of age, is so important!

Pregnancy brings a lot of women into medical care, creating an opportunity for education, patient counseling, and even disease diagnosis.

Dr. Gibbs provided a chilling overview of vascular emergencies, with a reminder of the dangers of not just type A dissections, but also type B and splenic artery aneurysms. As a @CCF_IMCHIEFS alum, I also enjoyed hearing updates on @CleClinicHVTI London after the talk
Superb (scary!) overview of Vascular Emergencies in Pregnancy provided by Prof Richard Gibbs. Need a high index of suspicion for dissection!

Wonderful collaboration between ob-gyn, midwifery services, and ob medicine to provide home management of conditions like hypertensive disorders and hyperemesis, allowing patients to stay with their families and not have to miss as much work.
Wow! Medical Obstetrics at Home - sounds an ambitious (and great!) option for hyperemesis and preeclampsia patients.

Fortunately, I have not yet encountered an acute hematologic malignancy in pregnancy, but feel reassured that the prioritization of the pregnant person’s diagnostics and care has reassuring effects both for patient and fetus. Looking forward to the full publication in @TheLancet
Dr Giselle Kidson-Gerber just delivered an excellent summary on Haematologic Malignancies in Pregnancy. With prompt diagnosis and appropriate Rx the outcomes (including long term neurodevelopmental outcomes of the offspring) are inspiring. Summary coming soon in Lancet Hematology

Several talks on pregnancy related renal disease, both AKI and CKD. Still unclear if preexisting disease is unmasked and worsened or if long-term disease is secondary to pregnancy alone, but with renal-protective therapies advancing, early detection/prolonged monitoring are key
An excellent summary of Long Term Kidney Outcomes after PET was provided by Prof Renuka Shanmugalingam. These women all need follow-up care and ongoing monitoring for early identification of CKD

Amazing work from the team compiling extensive vital sign data from pregnant and early postpartum patients to build scoring systems for early detection of maternal decline and escalation protocols for early intervention, presented by @LucyMackillop
Maternal Early Warning Scores (MEWS), when automated, measured and interpreted properly, have the potential to significantly reduce maternal mortality and severe morbidity (per Dr Lucy MacKillop)
