Our Biology students have many talents: second year Ecology and Environmental Biology student Nicholas Marcino spent his summer working as a sailing instructor for The Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Nicholas taught both adults and children how to sail!

#ConGen2023 is complete! SFU Biology and SFU STEAM are very proud to have hosted this amazing course and to have brought so many incredible conservation geneticists to our campus over the past two weeks.

Ben Downey is an Aquarium & Zoo Science student, and this summer he is interning at Lilly Mountain Alpacas. One of the alpacas just gave birth, and Ben was there to be the lead human helper! The baby's name is Lola. Both mom and baby are fine, and Ben got some amazing experience!

Dr. Merry (Biology) along witih Dr. Bintrim (English) and Dr. Clachar (Spanish) accompanied 7 students to volunteer at the Mission of Mercy - Pennsylvania (MOM-n-PA) dental clinic held last Friday and Saturday in Allentown, PA. The clinic saw nearly 1400 patients in two days!

Congratulations to Sam Miller, Apryl Bambino, Bailey McDougall, and David Kinniburgh who earned their divemaster certifications on our trip to Bonaire this last week. They are each now scuba diving professionals in the industry! This is a big accompishment.

We're excited to announce that Priya Gupta and Samantha Timm are first recipients of the Joseph Erevelles Biology Pre-Medicine Award! Funded by the Erevelles family in memory of their son, Joseph, it provides support to students to offset the cost of applying to Med School.

Dr. Gail Drus' Restoration Ecology class helped the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy plant trees at a nearby gamelands. An estimated 600 trees were planted over 3 acres!

Meet Snurp! She is a Crested Gecko, and the latest addition to the Biology Department's managerie. These animals are native to New Caledonia, although Snurp was born in captivity under the care of alumnus Zach Rozansky and then lived with a faculty member for the past 12 years.

Congratulations to Grace O'Connell who received a Summer Camp Internship at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center in Milwaukee Wisconsin! She will be working with environmental educators and teaching future generations about wildlife. Have a great experience, Grace!

Congratulations to Jake Maddigan, who was accepted to Shippensburg University's Masters Program, where he'll be studying Fisheries and Ecology. Jake already has his first TA assignment: introductory biology! Our BIOL 110L class will be good preparation for that experience!
