Elander has been on shortlists so he’s a worthy candidate beyond just continuity. But I’m with Noah, with the cachet that Tony V built up I think you have to look around. Maybe you still land on Elander, but with the changing landscape maybe you can move a big name.
I think promoting Elander maximizes the potential of the 2026 Vols, recruits and health of the program at least in the short term I think hiring a HC (could be Elander) in June allows you to market the job at face value. Hiring a new HC in November comes with a lot of caveats

We will see what Tennessee athletic director Danny White ultimately decides, but was told just now by sources inside the program that the situation is very fluid on who will take over the program right now. Almost everyone I've talked to wants it to be Josh Elander. Stay tuned.

This is history in the making with a college baseball head coach going directly into an #MLB managerial role. Obviously, tough news for @Vol_Baseball, but what he did to transform that program was unreal. Now, it’s hugely important for the #Vols to take the torch forward.

2) if this happened a few years ago I’d be much more concerned about Tennessee fading. Elander & Anderson, should they stay, know the program inside & out. And maybe more importantly that admin/fanbase are bought into baseball. Pre-Tony and Post-Tony Vols are different beasts.

Initial thoughts: 1) we’ve seen assistants move back & forth, but a head man making a major league leap could signal a trend. Tony is an outlier is many ways, but I’m intrigued to see how young, successful coaches are viewed moving forward. Especially if he immediately succeeds.
