A good false confession story can win journalism awards. Just ask LA TIMES writers @anitachabria & @jvgarrison Their story on Connie Dahl's false confession just won them the Sigma Delta Chi Award for journalistic excellence.

Can't recommend this "Best Netflix Series" ever any higher. Kelly Loudenberg, @samanthaculp & the whole crew on "The Confession Tapes" hit a home run. Think I'll watch it again.

Fascinating piece offering a linguistic analysis of the Reid Technique & other confrontational interrogation techniques and how they can produce unreliable confessions. Well worth a read. The author, Julia Wilkie, keeps a low profile. Anyone know her?

Alabama ignores hard science, including DNA, and relies on junk science to preserve wrongful convictions. The State is even willing to come up with ridiculous theories to sustain these convictions. even in death cases. Just ask Chris Barbour.

It's easy to deceive myself that I'm not getting older. But aging really hits home when the icons of my youth start dying. Sly & Brian in the same week. Bob, Joni, Neil, Joan, Carole & others will probably join them in the next 5-10yrs. But their music will outlive us all.

Excellent story by @AnatRubin1 about the importance of defense investigators in proving a confession false. Gregory Nelson was so lucky to have Rob Shelton on his case; so few such investigators are available, especially in smaller counties in Ca.

F/C trumps DNA again. Avery Tatro's podcast "Tunnelvision" tells the story of Kenneth "KC" Grondin's wrongful murder conviction. DNA has now id'ed Chadwick Mobley as the killer. Mobley pled guilty & said he did not know KC. Why hasn't KC been cleared?

Could this be the year for NY to require attorneys for young people during interrogations. On to the Senate and then the Governor's desk?.

Happy 84th Birthday to Bob Dylan. I can't wait to see him this summer at the Outlaw Festival. What will make it special is that I am going with my son Jeremy. As a bonus we are seeing Willie Nelson and Sheryl Crow.

Hamid Hyat's luck changed when Dennis Riordan, whose work helped to free The West Memphis Three, became Hayat's attorney along with his partner Don Horgan. Dennis was a drummajor for justice who passed away after a battle with colon cancer.

The FBI also coerced Abdallah Higazy into a false admission in the days after 9/11. Hamid Hayat was also charged with lying to the FBI. If a l.e. agency coerces a suspect into a lie, how can the suspect be charged with a crime? Just ask @amandaknox.

Hamid Hayat, who the FBI coerced into a false confession, is a victim of overzealous police & prosecutors looking to find terrorists operating in the United States post 911. Kudos to @jasonmarkstv for this MUST SEE piece of investigative journalism.

I am forever indebted to @VillanovaU for giving my uncle, the first in my Jewish family to go to college, a B-Ball scholarship. The school also keeps my uncle's name alive by honoring his life & death at Iwo Jima every Memorial Day. #FirstAmericanPope.

Undocumented persons are vulnerable to police pressure which can cause false confessions. This is true now more than ever. The false and coerced testimony of two such people may have put this Utah man on death row -- 40 years ago.
