Hey! I hope everyone is having a good summer break. I have some news to share. I will be moving into a new position at the high school level, so I am sadly leaving Barnwell. You’ve all been an inspiration to me, and I am very excited for the next chapter. @NorthviewTitans.

Today was an exciting day to be a school counselor. Running 2 groups about social thinking & group skills with our K&1 bears. We learned about the thoughts and feelings that we experience inside our bodies and how to become social detectives 🕵🏼♀️ @JScottFarr @TheBarnwellBeat

1st grade 🧸s are learning how to practice skills in directing their attention by playing a fun hocus-pocus-FOCUS game! 🎃 Also, it doesn’t hurt that they are paying special attention to beginning letter sounds! #studentsuccessskills @Ms_Silverboard @TheBarnwellBeat

School may almost be out. but mental health is still in! FREE summer groups for Barnwell Ss at @SummitCoCtr are a great opportunity for students to work on social and emotional skills, with groups on anxiety, confidence, and mindfulness. @TheBarnwellBeat

We’ve been learning about social thinking skills and what it looks like to be a member following a “group plan”. It’s been so fun to watch groups collaborate and have fun building a home for farm animals from our storybook. @TheBarnwellBeat @mscollinsp

Captured a sweet moment between our bus driver and student. S lost her squishy this morning on the bus, and after hearing she left it he found it and brought it back to her only hours later. She wrote a sweet card of gratitude, which he is reading here. ❤️ #itsthelittlethings

Our small group counseling lessons on mindfulness skills was very *fruitful* today. We went to the nature trail and purposefully observed, described, and participated in an activity eating mandarin oranges. 🍊🌺🌿@dbtinschools @JScottFarr @TheBarnwellBeat

I can’t wait to formally receive this training some day 😍. Restorative conferences in schools are clearly a powerful and healing approach to combat the effects of shame. I’m all in!!.
This is some really good information! @MarcquezHaley and I are trying to be like @BarbourSSarah and @JoseGMena when we grow up! Soaking up all of this great Restorative Justice knowledge right now at this training. @MaribelbellEds @iirpgradschool

The most powerful tool I use in my role counseling students is teaching shame resiliency. Let’s normalize feelings of shame and help combat it with empathy and connection. @BreneBrown
