This TA isn’t perfect, but we’ve come a long way since we unionized three years ago. This was only possible through building solidarity, with support from elected officials, @OCLF, @CaliforniaLabor, and our strike fund donors. Members will hear more on next steps soon. Onward! ✊.

At-will employment is eliminated by new just cause protections, ensuring discipline is fair and transparent. There are also guardrails around management performing our work, the use of AI, freelance contracting, and involuntary beat assignments for reporters.

The proposal also includes job protections, such as a procedure for layoffs in inverse order of seniority. Seniority will be measured from when we started with our home paper, not when Alden Global Capital purchased us.

Under the proposal, members will receive no less than a 6% raise over two years. Some members with many years of experience who have been horribly underpaid will see raises of over 48%. The average raise over the next two years is 12%.
