It’s always fun to hear a collective ‘woah’ when @ShyloNatasha, postdoc from @aussiebiologist lab @ScienceStowers takes the stage with her opening chameleon slide. #NESDB2024 (Psst, hiring committees, she is already funded by NIH and is on the job market this year).

In conclusion, coursework is not about sitting in a classroom and learning what is being monologued. Please use the time and space to learn more than the content, read more than the textbook and observe more than the whiteboard. What you takeaway from the classroom is upto you.

4. Again hopefully, you are noting pedagogy in every class - what is working and what is not. What would you keep the same when you teach and what will you change? Some of you will be teaching for a living in a few years and most likely, with no additional training.

3. Bench is fickle, especially when you are starting out. If experiments don't work for months, no data to show for all the hard work, there has to be a way to keep the imposter syndrome at bay. Doing well in coursework boosts confidence. atleast for me. .

1. Coursework promotes equity and inclusion among grad students. Hopefully, your institute has students from diverse background who did not take the same coursework in their undergrad studies. Grad school coursework puts them all in equal footing.

I appreciate my cohort of postdocs @ShyloNatasha @wattk11 @MaureenCLamb and @lorena_maili in @aussiebiologist's lab everyday. But this week it is not odd to say it out loud. Ladies, you make lab fun and exciting. @ScienceStowers.#PostdocAppreciationWeek #WomenInSTEM
