As always, Weirton is fighting back against what DC is doing to its steel industry. Today is the last day of session here in Charleston, but it’s great to see the turnout back at home!
📍Weirton, WV: Happening right now USW Union in Weirton are rallying for their jobs after the recent decision to idle the Cleveland Cliffs Tinplate Facility in Weirton. Tune into @WTRF7News weekend edition this evening for the full story.

Another decision made in Washington puts steel workers in Weirton out of a job. I promise to do all that I can for those who will lose their job.

We are heading once again into an election where very few people at Washington truly understand how remarkably devastating factory closures are.

Check out my recent article about having veterans serve as poll workers to help solve our shortage of volunteers and ensure smooth and safe elections. https://t.co/N4oesg8y2z

Democracy runs on elections. And elections run on volunteer poll workers. In spite of the importance of these volunteers, in the past three national elections, our nation has seen a critical shortage...

It’s never the wrong time to do the right thing. As we head into the last week of the session, I’m hopeful that the House of Delegates will take up SB 190, my bill that will finally end the marital exception to West Virginia’s sexual abuse crimes.

This afternoon I introduced a resolution on the senate floor encouraging military veterans across West Virginia to volunteer as election workers. As one of the most trusted demographics in the nation, who better to help run our elections!

Couldn’t be more proud to see Alex named on this list! I’ve never seen anyone else work as hard as she does to help make WV a better place. We can all learn from her drive and determination to bring about real change in the state we call home.

By JOSELYN KING WHEELING — Those from outside West Virginia often look down on the state’s attributes, forcing West Virginians to often embrace an “underdog mentality,” according to Alex Weld,...

With this week’s death of retired BG John “Doc” Bahnsen, West Virginia has lost a true American Hero. Doc was one of the most decorated officers in the history of the United States Armey. It was a privilege to call Doc a friend & my thoughts go out to Peggy & his entire family.

Once again, the federal government has left the city of Weirton and its steel industry with a legacy of closed mills and unemployed workers

I have this picture from Weirton’s 1983 Fourth of July parade hanging in my office. Unfortunately, the sign on the truck is still true today - and once again we see a decision made in DC putting steel workers in Weirton out of a job.

I have spoken with a number of officials both at home and in Charleston and have promised to do all that I can to ensure that the state does everything possible to assist these workers and their families. https://t.co/oINkEslE3N

Affected employees will be provided relocation opportunities to work at other Cliffs’ facilities and/or severance packages, the company said.

Sen. @RyanWeld says he believes this bill could result in "greatest transfer of wealth from one state to another." Sen. Woelfel requests copy be sent to Gov. Mike DeWine. Advances out of committee. Sweet.
