Today I was meant to be returning to @GirtonCollege to complete the final term of my first year there. That's not happening now and it's heartbreaking. I never thought I'd have met friends that I now regard as some of the most important people in my life in a place that (1/8)

I still believe isn't a place for people from backgrounds like mine. Be that in college itself or at @CamUniLabour or elsewhere. I can barely fault the college, but what @Cambridge_Uni is doing now is proving exactly why the University isn't a place for people like me. (2/8)

We've been set 4 x 5 hour exams, up to 8 mocks and other essays to do at home. It's still unclear as to whether these are compulsory or not but regardless of that, people will feel terrible for not doing them when others from more privileged backgrounds will do with ease (3/8)

I know some students have it way worse than me. I'm not looking for pity, but the fact that that 'optional' exams are even a thing in this period (instead of scrapping completely) paves the way for more privileged students to complete the exams with working-class students (5/8)

feeling like they haven't fulfilled something or proved themselves, which is what we're constantly feeling like already at @Cambridge_Uni . I know that's what I feel like already. I love the University experience more than anything and the 6 months I was there were the best (6/8)

six months of my life and the people I met I cherish more than anything. Being at @GirtonCollege makes me so happy and is the best decision I ever made. I don't know whether I'm going to try and complete some, all or none of the exams this year, but what I do know (7/8)

is that Cambridge, and I suspect MANY universities nationwide are failing working-class students right now when we need their support more than ever. We were never even asked what we might like for exam arrangements. Mental health side-effects for all need consideration. (8/8)
