Ooh, please tell me Ed Yong is writing a book on the disaster that was the “war” between germ theory & sanitation. This dichotomy has dramatically outlived any value it ever had. The answer was always both!
Ed Yong on why we rely on drugs, and vaccines versus non pharmaceutical interventions like masking. We thought we would solve the problem with vaccines, but we don't have the systems in place to get the vaccines deployed.👏

@VIMS_News Finally, in the James River dermo prevalence was below the 2023 level and the long-term mean, though still in the "normal" range as at the other sites. All in all, the situation with regard to this key oyster pathogen has improved in lower Chesapeake Bay @VIMS_News

Our Fall Survey for oyster diseases in the Virginia part of Chesapeake Bay @VIMS_News is now complete for Perkinsus marinus (dermo). Infection prevalence at the three Great Wicomico River reefs we survey is sharply down from 2023, and well below the long-term average.
