Paraphrasing @RuthParsell - video laryngoscopes are prone to device failure, particularly in the prehospital settings. Have they also eroded the discipline of stepwise airway instrumentation that could optimise our view of the chords? @SafeAirway #SAS2023

Might be time for a re-think on prehospital thoracic decompression. DRF in Germany are changing their practice across all 30 of their helicopter bases because of the data in this study. And thanks to @AnnaLee_AIC from @CUHKMedicine

I took the number of COVID patients per hospital reported in the SMH today and calculated the ratio of this against the ED accessible beds (a measure of acute hospital capacity). The chart for distance from the hospital to a beach is uncannily similar.

Even if you have no shred of compassion (for some Aussie kids)…this makes no sense financially, just make it stop #hometobilo
Just so we’re clear. A stroke of a pen by new Home Affairs Minister @karenandrewsmp is all that’s needed to bring family #hometobilo. They remain in detention now because Minister Andrews has chosen so far to follow in Dutton’s footsteps. It will define your office. Act wisely.

This is really on point - especially the solutions section. We need change. | ED overcrowding, under-resourcing “worst in 30 years” | InSight+ | @JudkinsSimon @acemonline @MartinFoleyMP @theMJA

Any ED types that work west of the Eastern seaboard states that have wound back their models of care/streams for potential COVID pt’s? Any tips? What were your triggers for winding back/business as usual? @GarthHerrington @Eleytherius

SEVERE Access Block: 11 people waiting >24hrs (a whole day!) for bed in hospital, 12 more >12hrs Is waiting this long for a bed acceptable? @StephenWadeMLC @ANMFSA @SA_Ambulance @acemonline @amasamembers #SASMOA

1. So in a reality where we have closed down half the world to try to stop Corona Virus, how can we let ED access block be a thing already in most/all states. Failure to provide safe environment for staff and patients disrespects all those who are giving up so much. @acemonline

Something we did recently. We really do need to get medical teams to severely sick and injured kids as early as possible. Prehospital intubation is high risk but the right team can do it very safely. https://t.co/tWQdUgY33x
