Starting with a regular part of summer diet. Basil from our garden—buffalo mozzarella—tomatoes from Alabama—homemade basil oil to kick it up a notch. Wine is 2016 Volpaia Chianti Riserva
We are in love. A great Italian market by our new house and I mean great. All ingredients put together by
@JojoRussellvine
for a Devine spread. Blood orange marmalade and mortadella great
Update. Cheers everyone. Evidently spare parts are harder to find for old winemakers. Have to have a second surgery on my hip early tomorrow morning and then home on Monday.
Cheers to the weekend. Having a glass outside with
@JojoRussellvine
. Walked outside with a cane and starting to make good progress towards my recovery
Just went out and took a picture of this Mourvedre cluster on the left and Syrah cluster on the right. Incredible color in the grapes this year. Notice the different cluster sizes. Less than 20 days to go for harvest if the hot weather does not mess things up
When you go to the surgeon for the final follow up visit and he says instead of 3 month recovery time mine will be 6-12 months. Only one thing to do for lunch—pasta—French bread and a big and I mean big red wine. Just now waking up from a great nap. Great attitude adjustment
Today marks our first
@Airbnb
guests since February. The outdoor wine sipping areas are ready--the fireplace is stocked with wood and their Chardonnay is cooling. Lets get back to living again
Just returned home and everything is fine. Thanks for all your concern. Ours is now with everyone who was impacted severely. Join us in prayers for them. We drove home to find city trucks already picking up debris and the state trucks clearing the interstate. Just awesome
All this French red wine and great food being posted. We opened this—was one of only 2 French reds in the cooler. Also ordered Filet Mignon Beurre Maitre d’Hotel with garlic butter and pommes frites from our local French restaurant
Covid hair the start and the end--Jan 2020 in Florence--December 2020 in Paso---May before and after in Paso. I am officially done with Covid hair and holefully Covid
The power of positive thinking. We went to hospice Sunday to see
@JojoRussellvine
mom. Hospital gave her days. IT'S A MIRACLE. Yesterday the bleeding just stopped and today being moved out of Hospice back to her room at long term care. Thanks to all for your thoughts-so grateful
Tired of bad meat. I went to the source and ordered online. It came frozen in dry ice. Joanne did her magic. It is one of the best steaks ever. Demanded big red wine. Did not want to deplete 2015 or 2016 Italian's so I stayed at home and was not disappointed & I have more of this
Nothing like a counter full of 2016 Brunello to make you smile. All arrived direct from Montalcino--no sitting in distributor hot warehouses--no sitting in hot stores--right from the source--no buy now and get in September
People have asked about what happens to the wine cellar when we move. I found wine storage before a house. Open 365 days a year kept at 55 degrees with a back up propane generator for power outages. Lots of wine lovers in the area. I have 2 lockers-one holds 77 cases the other 22
Fun day today. I just received the news that I can get some 2020 Sangiovese grapes from one of the best Sangiovese vineyards in Calif in Chalk Hill area of Sonoma County. The bud wood came from cuttings given from Pertimali in Montalcino
When it's cold and damp--not really raining--more like Oregon fog--only one thing to do--go to the cellar and get a magnum of Chateauneuf. Don't expect to get much done tomorrow
In my best “Risky Business FIA” moment. After 30 days went outside in the breeze to have a glass of wine with
@JojoRussellvine
. Life is getting closer again
Found the perfect pizza. The owners brought their pizza oven from Naples—they get the flour from Naples—only use San Marzano tomatoes. Perfect pizza wine also
Rain. We had our morning coffee on the front deck watching the rain. It never rains this time of the year. It was like the scene in the movie A Good Year. Great morning before the heat
Enough is enough. In honor of bottling Bacio tomorrow I just booked Sorrento, Italy for two weeks in May next year. This is the view from the house above the town. Amalfi Coast here we come. Party in Sorrento anyone???????????????????????
