Maharshi Dayananda or Arya scholars thereafter deviated from this Pauranika interpretation and revived the Vaidika meaning of Indra. The Brahman doesn't take Avtar is evident from the fact that the Avtara word doesn't appear in any Ved mantra.

In fact, Vaidik's text had multiple meanings for the term Indra. Brihaddevta only described 26 different meanings of Indra. But Pauranika Translators presumed Indra to be some demigod sitting in heaven and enjoying the dance of Apsaras - mimicking Abrahamic concepts.

This is the case of biased interpretation by Pauranika. Indra as Atma or Indra is Jiva is very well-accepted meaning in Shastra. Even Shatpatha accepts that Indra means Prana which lights all indriya - meaning Jiva only.
