As if professor positions were the only available or desired outcomes for PhD students. And very few PhD students work close to the hours he describes.
There are too many bio PhD positions. Few of these graduates are able to obtain a PI position. Universities only train so many because they are cheap labor who will work 80 plus hours a week for 60 grand.
