I have driven my friends and colleagues crazy talking about e-lit 24*7. Sorry Rachayita and @PradarshikaB! I hope you enjoy reading and critiquing it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

It has taught me to look for what is not, rather than what is. It has taught me to think critically about the questions of institutions and disciplinarity. I am sure I might have fallen short in some instances but I did try.

I end my sob story with a conversation from Sahitya Akademi where someone told me that I will not find what I am looking for. I responded "jo hai uske liye nahi aya hu, jo nahi hai wo samajhna chahta hu" (I am not here to look for what is, but understand why something isn't!).

During all stages of writing, my best friends who also happen to be my supervisors, Parichay Patra and Leonardo Flores stood by me providing invaluable suggestions at every single step. I am also grateful to my anonymous reviewers and my interviewees for time and data.

Practice sessions of this paper began with a discussion at the DAS LAB at @uni_regensburg with @AstridEnsslin, followed by a seminar at the @CSSSCal thanks to the Doctoral Scholars' Seminar series. I am grateful for the feedback from Piuli Basu, @Prosperoscell and @RosinkaCh1.

Ideologically, this paper continues the dialogue from my work with @AstridEnsslin on E-Lit as Postcomparative Media. It is a compressed version of a single chapter from my thesis. Writing this has consumed the greater part of my life and contributed to my vagabiond-ish lifestyle.

This paper positions Electronic Literature as an emergent practice within the sphere of English Literary Studies in India and tries to understand why things are the way they are.
