My dying mother begged not to be brought to A&E. She feared death less. October arrives and reintroduces us to the scandal of elderly, desperately sick people condemned to a chaos of degrading trolleys. Impossible situation for docs/nurses/porters. A column on a national disgrace

A week ago, an Offaly man broke Trump's America. Golf's Seamus Darby. Shane Lowry delivered the image of 2025 that will forever endure. A column on a Ryder Cup moment that touched many of us at the heart.

Incredible Dublin SFC semi-final. Stunning second half surge from @clgNaFianna to take down Shane Walsh and Kilmacud. Some exhibition of grit. Almost lapped by half time. A deeply impressive refusal to bow. Epic stuff.

Words on Shane Lowry. And the wild-eyed joy of last weekend. A 2025 Seamus Darby.

A column on Shane Lowry. On his moonstruck Ryder Cup delirium. On how he touched so many at the heart. On how it felt like a small victory over Trump's boorish America. On how, like Paul McGrath or Katie Taylor, this Offaly boy feels beloved.

So happy to post this podcast, a tribute to Con Houlihan with @RoyCurtis68 and actor Brendan Conroy reading legendary pieces. Roy’s opening is extraordinary. When I reached out to Brendan to take part, he replied simply “anything for Con.” https://t.co/AsDuapOktV

Shane Lowry. He's beautiful for many, many reasons. The biggest one: Authenticity. He cares. He's real. That interview. Jaysus. His Dad won an All-Ireland. Shane has just done a Seamus Darby. Magnificent.

American Ryder Cup fans - along with a fair number of their players - are a perfect emblem of Trump's ugly, aggressive, condescending USA. Witless, boorish, jingoistic, loud, entitled, clueless, rich. Compelling proof that the ape is descended from man.

In life, if lucky, come moments that make it all better. Granted the supreme thrill of speaking about Con Houlihan at @HistFest At the Mansion House, a venue drenched in Irish history. Con inhabits the Everest peak of my admiration. And my late Mam's. She'd have melted with joy

Con Houlihan was a first hero. A wordsmith. Philosopher. Drinking man. Now read on... A huge honour to speak about the Kerry bard's life, work, thirst and legacy at Dublin Festival of History. In the company of the towering @fallon_donal Mansion House, Saturday, 5pm. @HistFest

Colin Corkery is among the more naturally brilliant athletes I've seen. Unquestionably among the funniest. Jumping on a tram during a training run Waking up to find a bishop hold his hand. Definitely not a Jim McGuinness type. A genius. Aussie Rules & NFL & Cork. A class act.

A column on the horror of a dead child hidden in Donabate marshland. The unbearable story of Daniel Aruebose. A boy reduced to expired bones in a tenement grave.

It rains. Did two things today that made the weather invisible. Visited Mam and Dad's grave. Talking to the people who made you. The most peaceful feeling in life. Had pints with friends in Kehoes and Nearys. A Vesuvius of Friday joy. It rains, but it doesn't rain.

Eight years ago today. An iconic moment in All Ireland final history. Not even the hurtling GPS of Mayo's immense Lee Keegan could deflect Dean Rock. Always thought Dean might be the most undervalued of Dublin's golden age titans. A cold eyed assassin. As for Lee? Warrior gold.
