Exactly. There'll never be enough #legalaid, #probono or private #lawyers to bridge the #justicegap. So the very act of saying "go get a lawyer" or "only #attorneys have #authority" in the #justice system is an act of class warfare, intentional or not. #wherestheoutrage #NoPlanB
Telling low-income people to "go get a lawyer" when they obviously cannot afford one is the same as Marie Antoinette saying "let them eat cake." It makes no sense, and it's deeply out of touch. But it's the status quo for poor people who show up to courts on their own today.

The little-known Louisianan, who won on the first ballot, rallied objections to 2020 election certification, won Trump’s hedged support and has a solidly conservative voting record.

Happening Now: Oregon Supreme Court considers a supervised pathway to law licensure. Whatever the decision today, THIS is an example of a court truly engaged in self-regulation, w/out delegatory outsourcing. It's OUR profession. WE should dictate the requirements for entry.

AND the solutions we've crafted over the past 100+ years to meet people's legal needs are woefully imperfect and inadequate. Disturbingly so. That we as a profession refuse to make any changes absent proof that such changes result in perfect outcomes is absolutely rage-inducing.
“By the time you come to the perfect solution, the problem has already changed.” – Jessie Shefrin This one is for all the folks out there in lawland who oppose change to #MakeLawBetter in the face of our many current failures. (TY to @matthomann for the quote)

We haven't even had a real, informed debate yet. We have one side being asked to prove the negative and collecting the small amount of data we can while the other is sharing their feelings about an economic (not ethics) restriction rooted in assumption. https://t.co/x9Xiep8Itt

The new leaders of the American Bar Association’s innovation unit are outspoken critics of moves to loosen law firm ownership rules, a hot-button issue for the legal industry.

Using @pewresearch data offline population shrinks 7%. In 2000, almost 50% didn't use internet. 25% of respondents aged 65+ didn't compared w/ 4% age 50-64. https://t.co/I8zHXwDswz

Internet adoption is widespread in the U.S. In fact, only 7% of Americans do not use the internet. Who are these non-adopters?

It's Friday, I'll go harder. When the UT sandbox launched, "non-lawyer" co-ownership ⬇️50% was classified Low Risk and ⬆️50% was Low/Moderate Risk. Today, ABS structures are classified Low Risk. Why has that changed? *Data has entered the chat* *Feelings have left the chat*
Here we go again with all-or-nothing thinking. The medical profession’s experience with PE ownership should be a guide for developing *better* models of co-ownership in the law. And not mentioned here (of course) is the data on these models in UT and AZ.

Because the Center is the future of its relevance. And, this is exactly why the organization will continue to deny reality by replacing leaders committed to serving people with leaders who are committed to serving lawyers. Sad.

And, if at this moment in time, the ABA dismantles its Center for Innovation, whether officially or effectively through budget cuts? There is not a desert in the land big enough to hold the hubris-swollen collective head of this organization. It needs the Center.

By placing people like Younger (who has spread misinformation on reg reform) on the @ABAInnovation council, ABA leadership has taken a clear stance against the free flow of dialogue on issues of importance to the profession. Independence of thought & #A2J are under attack here.
Citing 'political challenges' within the ABA, its Center for Innovation cancelled an op-ed advocating for regulatory reform. I have the op-ed and full details of what happened. This comes as the ABA annual meeting convenes in Denver. @ABAesq #ABAAnnual

Fascinating read. "continued presence of nonprofits represents a policy failure: the failure to create a more inclusive & responsive government, to adequately meet needs of low-income residents, & dismantle the racism of political-economic structures.”👇 https://t.co/zz54jQKOZb

Claire Dunning traces the development of the nonprofit sector and argues that it was created to offset demands for democracy, particularly by people of color.
