Please excuse me while I vent but let me give some advice: If you are applying for a post-doc position in my lab then (1) don't address me as Sir, (2) Read my lab website and don't tell me you'll be a great fit b/c XYZ which has nothing to do with my lab, and (3) harass me.

@RossLabUC This happens to me far too often also! As soon as I read "Dear Sir" it's over - they might as well not have bothered. And I find if I respond too nicely, that can result in many follow-up emails that sometimes lead to never ending emails. Good luck with filtering them all out!

@RossLabUC I think an added benefit of more women leading chem departments is hopefully stopping this shit. We had a very arrogant misogamist Russian in my year. Didn’t think women could be scientists. Also had female dept head and several female profs. Guess who didn’t graduate?
