A huge joy to work with @RobertKwolek @ADAMarchitectur (who lead the architecture module) other @createstreets colleagues @RoseJericho @shepherdmg & James Armitage on the @CreateStreetsFN Summer School. And some of the feedback is humbling. Changing lives & improving places
It was an immensely rewarding week teaching on the @createstreets Summer School in Sherborne for the third year in a row, the architecture module masterfully led by @ADAMarchitectur. It's often been the highlight of my working year and this year is no exception.

We also added a craft day this year, with experts @RoseJericho showing us how to repoint one of Sherborne School's limestone walls with lime mortar, hopefully preserving a part of it from the scourge of concrete mortar. Concrete mortar was destroyed in the process!

The first recorded use of pistachio green as a colour name in English was in 1789. Pistachio is a pale clean mint-green produced using the yellow-green mineral earth epidote found in Piedmont on the French-Italian border.

Sheltercoats are thicker than limewash as the colour is achieved by the addition of very fine stone dust and are normally intended as a sacrificial coating to delay the deterioration of decaying stone. Sheltercoats are individually matched on a project-by-project basis.

Pozzolans are materials that are not themselves cementitious, but contain constituents that will combine with lime at ordinary temperatures in the presence of water to form stable insoluble hydraulic compounds. We stock a range of pozzolanic materials for addition to mortars.

Violet: The colour name derives from the violet flower. Violet and purple look similar but are in fact very different. Our violet paint colour is produced using the 19th century ultramarine violet pigment.
